I've got a Sears JC Higgins 51-L, Husqvarna swedish mauser action in .30-06. It belonged to my grandfather since he bought it new. The action is in good shape, but the barrel's a bit pitted though and it just doesn't group very well. It's got a very very basic stock, some worn blueing - so it's going to go off for a restoration project. Stock, re-barreling, possible caliber change, re-finishing. Anyone know who makes some reasonable, nice wood stocks that fit that action with medium or below fitting? I'd like to keep it the classic wood/blued look rather than composite. I realize i'll be putting more into than what it's book worth is, but it's sentimental so I don't mind investing. Also , who are the recommended higher-end barrels? I know of Krieger, Benchmark, Shilen and Proof Research - but other than AR's , I've never really barrel-shopped before. Thanks.
