Hi what are the specific differences in upper and power parts between the Gen 3 Glock 19 and Gen 3 Glock 23? I'm planning on building my Polymer 80 into a Gen 3 Glock 19 but use a Gen 5 barrel. I have the upper and lower parts for a Glock 23 already. Thanks for advance.

Caliber specific gen 3 9mm/40 s&w parts - Slide, extractor, extractor spring bearing, striker, recoil spring assembly, trigger mechanism housing (just the ejector is different), barrel, magazine. Pretty sure I didn't omit anything but I could be mistaken.

Not sure if a gen 5 barrel will work with a gen 3 slide / frame.

The slide and frame are identical except for the breech face of the slide, the ejector, and the recoil spring. The .40 cal (G23) ejector MAY work ok, but the recoil spring will be too stiff. (And, of course, use a Glock 19 magazine

Thank you very much!

The cutout at the front of the slide is larger for the .40.

And the Gen 3 9mm and .40 use the same recoil spring assembly to my knowledge, or they used to.

Oh yeah, I had a few too many beers last night, I forgot about the 40 cal barrel diameter being slightly larger. I stand corrected. The Gen 4s have different recoil springs for the 40 cal

I got this reply on this issue from my local gunsmith:
"The biggest difference between the 2 frames is the locking blocks, the extractors (in the slide) and the ejector (in the frame) are also different. Although these parts are different you can still shoot a 9mm upper on a 40 cal lower."

Is this just plain wrong?

No... you can put a complete 9mm upper on a .40 lower. The only difference in the lowers is the ejector, and the .40 ejector still works for 9mms. You may get more brass to the face and you may not. But It’ll work. Not sure if the 9mm locking block is different from the .40. If he says so I guess they’re different. But if it still works.....

The only combo I’ve found that won’t actually feed and fire is a gen 5 9mm EJECTOR combined with .40 mags, shooting 9mm out of a 40/9 conversion barrel. Nasty nosedive jams.

Seems to me that when an actual "kit" of parts is purchased, you get a few parts in the mix that really are not needed. I just get the parts individually, and most sure know that there is a plethora of aftermarket parts available for the Glock pistols.
