So then, which grips did you like best all-'round? Carry and shoot?

Todd.

The Pachmayr Compact grip are by far my favorite for feel, and looks. But the Hip-Grip is a neat concept to just tuck in the waistband.

If I had 2 Pachmayr Compact grips, I probably would have them on both my U/C and my Bulldog. But, for now they are on my Bulldog and the Hip-Grip is on the U/C. I haven’t shot it yet. After I do, I might be persuaded to get another Compact grip.

Never knew of (or... forgot about) the Hip Grips till this post.

Interesting to see how many vintage sets are available if they apply to a particular gun.

Todd.

I like the factory “ combat grips”. I’m going to get another left side and use a dremel to put a 45deg bevel on it so the cases slip by... or maybe some factory small wood grips

Here is a picture of the differences in shape between the factory rubber grip and the Pachmayr.

You should see the “custom” grips I’ve been making for an N frame revolver. I’ve been taking full size rubber grips and chopping them down to boot grip size, and I have to cut away the back strap on the grips to give me the proper length of pull for a good trigger reach. They fit my hand well, handle recoil well, and are the ugliest bubba’d grips ever. Seriously they look awful! I will get a few pics to share at some point, though I am ashamed of just how awful they look...

Very helpful comparison shots - thanks! I wish CA would put something like that on their website for their own rubber replacement grips.

Edited to add:
I contacted CA customer service with a question, and after they replied, I suggested they add some comparison pictures to make it easier for customers. We’ll see what happens! ;)

I shot my Bulldog for the first time tonight, ever. I had the Pachmayr Compact grip on it. My loads were 240gr LSWC over 5.8 gr Unique and 6.0gr Unique. My knuckle on my middle finger is a little banged up after 50 quick shots. I plan on trying the factory rubber to see how that goes.

That truly is a weird aspect of my favored grip.... That middle finger knuckle.

Todd.

For those (like me) who were curious, here's how the Charter Arms rubber grips compare in size. The bottom is the Combat Full Rubber Grip and the tip is the Compact Grip.

The Combat grips add about 1/2 in in overall length and about 1/4 in in overall width. IMG_20200304_113553.jpg

My two , An early Bridgeport which is stellar accurate , and a early Stainless gun that shows great workmanship. No trouble with either gun BUT I don't shoot them more than a cylinder full a year or so to make sure they still work and are sighted in . The stainless for 30+ years and the blue one for 40+ years. :)

Your second from the last photo that you posted sure took me back in time! My first DA revolver was a Charter Arms Undercover. And like yours I added a Tyler T-Grip adapter to it because the factory wood grips were not enough to hold on to for a good grip. Later I added a Pachmayr Compac grip to it for mostly shooting at the range. I also use to buy Federal Monarch ammo for it basically because it was good stuff and relatively cheap!

All that shooting made me want to load my own ammo so I went and bought a Lee Loader for .38 Special and made my own target loads with the brass I brought home from the range. Took a lot of hammering with that Loader but it was a lot of fun and I really felt a sense of accomplishment reloading my own ammo! Looking back those were some great times and I really enjoyed every minute of it!

MIOkie posted a pic of his Bulldog Colt...very nice! I purchased one several weeks ago and am very pleased with it. Recently took it out shooting and what a keeper! Minimal recoil if any. I shoot 250 grain MBC Hi-Tek through it. With all my powder options it did great, especially with Alliant e3.

Thanks for the compliments on the photos folks! Nothing fancy...I just take them with the camera on my I-phone7. Outdoors in natural light works best for me.

bannockburn...I also started loading .38 specials with a Lee Loader and plastic mallet. Loaded them for my first centerfire DA revolver which was a S&W model 10, 2" barrel, round butt. That was probably mid-to-late 1960's.

nevadabob...

Glad to hear you are happy with your Charter .45 Colt. I really enjoy mine.

What surprised me was how light the thing is. 21 ounces empty. The 2 1/2 inch barrel handles 200, 230 and 250 grain bullets, as well as the 185 gr. Hornady Critical Defense rounds very nicely at the 15-25 yard distance I normally shoot.

I see the Black Spot has a pic of his .45 Colt Charter on this thread with some very mean looking wadcutters...!
