Hi Mcb, This might help. Abrasive belts used for knife making like Norton and 3M last longer but cost more. VSM makes good belts and cost a little less. Hermes, Klingspor, and Merit belts are cheaper but they don’t last as long. I don’t use 36 grit belts very often as they leave deep scratches in the steel which are hard to remove. I profile my knives with a 50 or 60 grit ceramic belt. When I want a satin finish on a blade I use a 400 or 600 grit 3M Trizact Belt. To sharpen a blade I use Hermes J-Flex 240 grit and a 400 grit belt. If you like a scary sharp blade, polish the 400 grit wire edge with a Deerfos 2000 grit Aluminum Oxide belt. It is a lot safer than polishing a wire edge on a buffer.

Hey man, you did a fantastic job on that. I really like the shape . Breakfast hash would be quick work with that sucker. Well done.

I am not particularly religious, but you literally beat the plowshare into a sword, or at least it's a sword in spirit.

Really solid work. My hat is off to you.
