A fun thread, what weird wildcat do YOU wish was on the market and popular?

44 mag or 45 colt necked down to 357/38 for revolvers.

Has a 300 win mag ever been necked down to 6.5mm? That'd be interesting...

While not really a wild cat per se, but a bullet/caliber adapter..for the 7.62x39 to 7.62x54r. Saw something like for the 32 acp to 308, looked kinda cool.

Yeah, because having a revolver the size of a Redhawk or an N frame that holds 6 rounds, but it only shoots a .357 bullet at about the same velocity of .357 Maximum makes sense.

While im not disagreeing, its a fun thread. Lets not change that. 357max revolvers are hard to find and as far as I know, (could be wrong) were typically built by ruger for single actions, and contenders.

I can understand wanting a case with a rim for easy, repeatable headspacing, but for a necked down revolver cartridge, that's just not sensible.

For a rifle however... now that's a good idea.

Imo .358 diameter bullets are the most underrated hunting rifle caliber known to man. I get that colorado dudes that shoot mountain to mountain need flat cartridges, I get that its very underpowered for Alaskan game, but for 95% of the hunting in America thats not varmints, you could probably use a 357 mag - 358 Winchester.

How about a this one? A 9mm necked down to .30. We’ll call it the .327 Sig!:)

Co-developed with @TTv2 .

Isn't that basically what a 7.62x25 Tok is? If so then I'm all in bringing Tok back into modern production pistols and sub guns.

Almost. 7.62 Tok has a super long case, which is why there's no conversion barrels in it.

Sounds about like .30 Luger, though. Makes me wonder how stout you could load it for a modern gun. I know Ruger made a P89 in it, and it's popular in countries that restrict "military" calibers.

There’s only one way to find out.

I’ll just have to get a thirty caliber barrel for my Sig P938, a custom reamer and some dies, pistol type thirty caliber bullets...

Or maybe we could find someone with quick load.:D

Maybe use 110grn V-Max bullets in a fast twist barrel! That may be fun...

You would have to seat that V-Max so deep into the case that you'd have no neck tension.

Dan Wesson also made .357 Max double action revolvers. They had 8" barrels and were very accurate and popular with the handgun silhouette crowd. I had one and hunted with it for a few years, and then stupidly sold it to my brother-in-law. I have tried to buy it back from him at 1 1/2 times what a sold it, but he won't part with it.

I knew if someone made a double action 357 max it would be dan wesson.

The adapters exist, though normally the single shot adapters are rifle to handgun. Otherwise there are rifle-to-rifle inserts, however those are are semi-permanent and require the cases to have same rim sizes to function like 30-06 to 308.

Similar to the OP's listed wildcat, but just standardize the 5.45x18mm and either allow importation or make a copy of the PSM here.

A .50 cal revolver (.510/.512 bullet diameter) cartridge designed for use at BP performance levels and chambered in "normal size" revolvers without "extra" strengthening, custom line boring, or expensive materials. Maybe something on the .50-45 carbine case (a shortened .50-70)?

To flip the coin, honestly, I live in the Golden Age of Firearms.

Many venerable cartridges have benefited from modern technology, right along side some very popular wildcats coming to fruition as SAMMI standardized cartridges.

My latest Feral Feline to become totally mainstream is the 22x6.8Spc, the cool new kid known as .224 Valkyrie.

Not very long ago the 45 Professional became the 450 Bushmaster.

My Blackout pistol is not old enough to be called a Whisper.

Or the veritable epitome of WildCat to mainstream Movie Icon.

A wildcat cartridge designed specifically to knock down steel targets better, in a pistol specifically designed for Silhouette shooting, and thanks to Hollywood, is one of the most recognized handguns on the planet.
Star power!:)

7mm BR, fantastic round that the last factory ammunition, I know of, was made in the '90's.

Your 22-9mm is called a 22tcm. It's not actually a 9mm case, but it's close.
For me, every wildcat I could want is out there. You just have to buy expensive dies and a reamer.
If I had to dream up one. It would be a 10mm necked down to .357.
It should get close to 357 max velocities in a semi auto.

How about a 41 magnum necked down to 357? It’s called the 356 GNR, available from Gary Reeder custom guns, out in Arizona. I have one in a T/C G2 barrel. Smokin .....

I have a 410GNR, which is a 454casull necked down to .41 . I'm pretty sure you can go down a little more to .357

If they would neck a 300BLK down to .223 I think they would really have something :) !!!

I have pondered this a lot and read on it a fair amount. As mentioned physics comes into play and only certain things make sense. Some rounds are in the "sweet spot" and others can be pushed to do things but they do it at the cost of more powder, recoil, barrel life, etc with limited gain.

Components are changing and there may be room in the future but likely not a lot in my life time.

Sounds like a 221 Fireball to me ........

357 Bain & Davis is a 44 necked down to 357. I had both a Blackhawk and a T/C barrel chambered for it. Fun.
