I am going to start loading 180 gr gas check bullets for my 1909 argentine mauser. I was thinking of using 18-20 grains of 2400. Also how about IMR 4198? I also am loading for a 45-60 made by uberti and was thinking of buying a RCBS mold in 300 grain with a gas check. Anyone have experience with this mold.

thank you, the new 2400 burns a little differently, than the older stuff and 16 grains is a good place to start.

The 180 grain Lee 311 double cavity is the one I recently bought. I was thinking of loading 2400 to get the velocity of about 1600 fps. I will be loading some in the next couple of days and check for grouping at 25 yrds. Thanks

You may want to slug your bore.

I once had a frustrating experience with the Lee 185 gr. .312" out of an M44 that I eventually discovered had a .315" bore.

What alloy are you using?

That is a very good idea of slugging the bore. I was told that the 1909 's had a 311 bore, as for alloy I am using hard cast 45-70 bullets. I don't know the hardness.
