This is most definitely the prettiest pic!

This Blackhawk has been a wonderful, ongoing project. Somewhat chronicled in the handloading subforum. So it has come a long way that is so much more than say "working up a load" would entail.

Was walking through the shop after being out on a varmint mission and sat the Ruger down next to a pile of walnut drops. The wood came from down on a spring branch in the big woods behind the house. It's decent walnut down there but grows way too fast because of the wetness. We use a little of it in the shop but right much goes into the furnace ... I know, there's wood guys out there getting tingley thinking of throwing woods like this in the fire. Heck,we have some world class spalted maple and sycamore that will make you eyes bleed it's so pretty. And having built way too many trad bows, epoxy pretty much runs through my veins. Meaning stabilizing spalted wood is no big deal.

The Ruger laying there in the highly figured walnut struck a chord,a sign of sorts..... it's time for new stocks. Even have new Ruger emblems/escutcheons in red to go into them. Tooling, design, and experience are well covered.

Did grab a cple other species and threw in the pic. Camera phone, lighting ,and my skill(lack of) aren't doing justice to this wood..... but I do like the shot.
