I dearly miss Mr. Ted Yost’s Pistolsmithing column in American Handgunning magazine, The guy that writes the column is decent, but he ain’t no Ted Yost. I always learned good stuff from what he wrote. Here is a link to some of his previous articles to read & enjoy

Talking with Mr. Yost is one of the best parts of building a gun with him. He is willing to talk to you about the process. He gives solid advice. He is down to earth and helps you get the pistol you really want.

DWs are very good production 1911s. They are a gateway drug. Things like this my first DW which I bought before they exploded in popularity...

Peak your interest in things like this... Don Williams Full House custom 1911. Currently the best 1911 in the safe.

Where can a guy get those checkered grips? Is that only a Don Williams thing? I've never heard of him until now, but those grips are gorgeous. Could make a Rock Island look like a custom job lol.

2+ Year Wait. I got lucky and Don hooked me up. They are modified to fit the Stan Chen Gen 2 Magwell. The magwell does not add any width or length to the gun but gives you a huge funnel which even I can hit. LOL :rofl:

Real interesting results. Vintage pieces, bespoke pieces, modest do-all pieces and more bottleneck pistol cartridges brought up than I thought there would be.

Nice to see such varied results.

@jmorris

After my accuracy x is built for long bomb 45s I'm going to definitely give them a look. I want a race gun so bad.

I would get a pair custom made. One for longer range with slightly longer barrel in a 10mm and the other a std size in 45.

will commission them to use best metal and as slim as possible with SS finish and white grips. SET UP as bbq looker and range not combat.

if possible I will have them change the safety setup to the one on USP which also serves as a de cocker but SAO.

A walnut display box hold both pistols with glass on top. Ask a for shoulder rig for both guns in engraved leather.

A 6" 10mm, .45Super or .460Rowland. Target sights. Nice polishing. Checkering everywhere. Ivory grips. American scroll engraving and Turnbull carbona bluing with some fire blue and/or color case appointments. Basically a 1911 version of my .500.

Im bored on nightshift and want to hear your guy's and gal's ideas for a true no limit 1911 build. The wilder the better and more than 1 is definitely encouraged.
If I won the lotto/powerball, I would build me an indoor 100 yard range and buy one of every make of 1911 along with concrete block anchor rest for ransom testing - And anticipate to be surprised which 1911s produced the best 25/50 yard accuracy. :D

I would definitely include RIA models like this Tactical Ultra

And Pro Ultra Match

@LiveLife

Powerball dreams have been running high lately at work, 5-12s monday - friday then a 15 hour day on Saturday into sunday definitely makes one dream of amassing a fortune easier than 75 hour weeks.

I’ll have a set of these.

Obviously not these Cabots in particular. Mine would come from a different meteorite and be built to my specifications. But would be remarkably close to these...

A bargain really, at just two and a quarter million dollars each.
Though, it looks more impressive written as, $4,500,000.

No other pistols would ever look the same, as the irons grain structure is as it looked when it solidified at its creation. A “fingerprinted” pistol brace.

Make mine the AR of 1911s. Likely would have to have some sort of a replaceable feed ramp insert of sorts to make it work out, but I would want it to feed a wide variety of cartridges with simple swaps of uppers. Take it from 22lr to 50GI by way of 32naa, 9mm, 38 super, 10mm, 45acp, and 460 Rowland. Of course all of those uppers would have to be part of the original buy, and all of that would have to come in a buckeye wood presentation case with slots inletted for each slide and a matching ammo crate sufficient to hold 100 rounds for each. Start with something like a Ruger SR1911 just to confuse people on why go so wild on a cheap gun.

I've actually thought about doing this build. A lightly used early 70s Combat Commander in 38 Super with a S&W revolver rear sight, simple engraving like the photo below and polished charcoal bluing. And of course ivory grips.

Engraved something like this.

I actually inquired with cabot to build me a Nero with a few options including a flat meterorite trigger and they never got back to me. Not sure why.
