I'll own my first N-Frame next week when it comes in on Monday. I usually tend to buy smaller revolvers (SP101 4.2", 357 LCR, a number of J-Frames, etc) and carry them exclusively in quality OWB leather holsters. My first instinct for the 629 is a Sourdough Pancake holster but I fear even that holster will not keep my pants up. I use a quality thick leather belt for carry.

This will be for occasional carry only when I'm deer hunting. I'm perfectly happy carrying a 357 for normal woods carry (while small game hunting with a .22, archery hunting, or fishing) but I always carry a hunting-capable pistol when actively deer hunting. I've had my rifle get plugged up once and forgot my rifle ammo another time!

Ya got a little red wagon?

Seriously, Simply Rugged holsters work well for rambunctious outdoor activity.. I carried a Model 58 in one on horseback, motorcycle, and ATV. Never even a hint of losing it.
I have carried an N frame holster of several sizes and shapes since 1966.

These are the most recent for concealed carry.

I use a basic owb hip holster rig when carrying my 4" 629. Now this is only when hunting or working on my land. Guess one could conceal carry if wearing a button up shirt or flannel.

Be well

Galco DAO

I don't love the way this holster keeps the hammer and sight totally exposed, this does make it rather low profile however. Do you have experience carrying with a Galco DAO? Looks decent aside from possibly hitting the hammer and sight with my arm.

El Paso Saddlery Tortilla holster, 2x speed loader carrier, and double thick holster belt FTW.

This is my second EPS Tortilla. EPS is good kit.

I also have a Galco VHS shoulder holster for my SW629.

Carried my 4" in a Galco. My 6" in a Ross.
Tried a shoulder holster, have a bad neck..... chiropractic nightmare

El Paso Saddlery "Tanker". I have a bunch of these and really like them. Very well made and quite handy. Just grab and go.

This is actually my 28 in this pic, but I use the same holster for my 4" 629 as well.

I agree a belt is not a sound option. The chest rig makes sense for hunting, especially if you use an optic. You didn't mention a desire to conceal it, but I think that makes it more versatile for carry. There isn't much chance of concealing it in a chest rig except under a big parka or anorak, but there are a few other options besides a belt alone. You could hold the trousers up with suspenders. Bib overalls are another load-bearing option and there was recently a thread on how to carry wearing them. Then there are shoulder holsters. I tried shoulder holsters and was unsuccessful with them, but looking at this picture, I did not try it with the gun slung so low. I was putting it up under the arm pit. Well, Clint is a much bigger man than I am. He's 10 inches taller which creates a lot more room for him to carry that thing. I'm the same size as Frank Sinatra who turned down the role because he couldn't get them to agree to use a Colt Detective Special.

Nice holster, I just ordered one like that to carry either my M28-2 or M57 no dash; both have 6" barrels. I have an original Inger-Kress M3 from 1944 that I carry my 1911's in when out in the field. I like not having the weight on my belt, and aren't all that concerned trying to conceal them.

To answer the OP's question of the best way to carry a M29, carry it LOADED.:D

I'll add another vote for a chest holster. I have one from GS Holsters and it's surprisingly comfortable. Retention is excellent yet it's still easy to draw from. I'll be buying one from Alaris pretty soon to replace it though; when I bought my GS it didn't occur to me that get a holster for a gun + light. GS doesn't have a mold for the gun/light combo I run but Alaris does.

Let Ol Trigger carry it.

However... There was that time Wilber the mule spooked and left me 15 miles from camp with nothing until I caught up to him.

I bought this for CC of large guns when hiking. I think it would serve very well for a hunting. In fact I carried this, with a handgun along with calls and other necessary gear every day during turkey season this year. It's out of the way and serves multiple roles.

Be sure to watch the instructional video showing how to draw and use.

You might find it a bit cheaper on Amazon. Might not, but worth a look.

I carry mines in a Galco Combat Master. Since an earlier post somewhere on the forum told us it was a bad idea to post our own inventory, I’m leaving it to you to google it if you don’t know what they look like. lol Very comfy.
