Glock conversion barrels. Specifically 40 cal to 9mm.

What have been your guys experiences?

Do you do the full conversion? Or just the extractor? Or nothing?

I have been using a 40-9 barrel for many years in a G22. No mag change, no extractor change, and it runs 100% flawless. I use the lone wolf barrels.

Wow, that is all great news!

I bought a G22 gen 3 LEO trade in. I bought the Rock Slide G22 to 9mm conversion barrel for it. I also bought a 9mm extractor, and G17 mags. I only have the pistol though right now, none of the other parts have come in yet, so I haven't shot anything out of it yet.

But I'm going to test it without changing the extractor, I'm sure it'll be fine.

Do you guys regularly flip flop back to .40 or is it a one way conversion?
If the latter, does a .40 + barrel + magazines cost less than a native 9mm?

Jim, i always use the 9mm barrel. i barely ever use the 40 barrel. At the time, i picked up G22 for less then $300. i paid 75 for the barrel. Never used 9mm mags and extractor. It was less then a 9mm pistol and i have the option for 3 calibers from that once pistol. the 9mm is only good for 9mm but the 40 can convert to 9mm or 357 sig with just a barrel swap.

I started using 40-9 conversion barrels when I switched my USPSA caliber from 45ACP/9mm to 40S&W so I could practice with cheaper 9mm. Shot several hundred thousand rounds without issues. I simply swapped out the barrel and used Glock 17 magazines for more reliably feeding. Never had to swap out the extractor and I experienced good extraction/ejection. I usually run high range load data with my range practice/GP range blasting 9mm reloads using factory 40S&W recoil spring assemblies.

New/newer generation 40S&W magazines will even reliably feed and chamber 9mm rounds (especially with newer/stiffer mag springs) so try using 40S&W magazines before buying 9mm magazines.

I currently run BCA, KKM, Lone Wolf, Tactical Kinetics 40-9 conversion barrels in my Glock 22/23/27.

Do you guys regularly flip flop back to .40?
Yes.

After the range session, factory 40S&W barrels go back in and Glocks are ready for defensive use again as they run reliably for several thousand rounds without cleaning.

BTW, I do have 40S&W aftermarket barrels to shoot lead/coated lead bullets and reserve plated/jacketed bullets for factory barrel use.

Ya, like i mentioned before, i got mine for less the 300 after shipping and transfer fee. I bought up a few of the 40's on the surplus market. Which i am glad, because the local shops only seem to have 40 ammo in stock. Well worth it.

I "converted" my G-23 to G-19
G-35 to G-34
G-27 to G-26
All by just using dedicated REPLACEMENT barrels and then 9mm magazines.
All run very well and no issues to report.
Good luck finding parts now.

I recently bought a used G35 that had the original .40 barrel and a lone wolf 9mm conversion barrel. Ive only used the .40 because I specifically wanted a full size .40 gun. I did some quick googling and also found i can get a .357 sig barrel for about $130 and it will most likely run fine with the factory .40 extractor and the factory .40 mags

I got my LE trade-in Glock for a bid of $280 (plus shipping and FFL). It came with the box and 2-3 mags.

The Lone Wolf conversion barrel was on sale for $99. Lone Wolf had a G17 magazine for something like $28. Shipping was free.

I can take out my G22 and shoot a box of 40 caliber through it with the original barrel and mags. Then I can field strip the Glock, insert the 9mm conversion barrel, reassemble it, and insert the G17 mag (that all takes less than a minute). Then I can shoot a box of 9mm ammo through it.

You can go back and forth as often as you want. Switching barrels takes about 30 seconds if'n you're sober and the sun ain't in your eyes.

IIRC, the Model 22 will also take a conversion barrel for 357 sig.

The BCA 9/40 barrels work great, they were under $50 pre-Covid. They are more now. I have one in my carry gun right now, on a long trip. I could have taken many other guns, but I have zero worries about this set up. It just works.

Let me jump on the dogpile. I bought a Lone Wolf 9mm conversion barrel for my Gen 4 G27, added some G26 mags, and it has run like a top for hundreds of rounds with no failures of any kind. I’ve since added some G19 and G17 mags with X-Grips to fill the extra space, which make it a very flexible little gun.

I bought a Lone Wolf 9mm conversion barrel for my G22, along with a G17 RSA. I use the stock extractor and .40 magazines. It has not run perfectly, but is more than adequately reliable for range work.

I now have a KKM conversion on the way for my G23, along with a G19 RSA, and also a 9mm mag for each gun (along with orange baseplates to avoid magazine confusion). I guess I'll find out if the cartridge appropriate magazines help reliability or not.

The reason for the conversion barrels is two fold. Firstly, 9mm is cheap and low recoil, so learning to shoot quicker with accuracy is easier. Secondly, it's not a bad idea to have some caliber versatility, but I don't necessarily want to buy other guns just for that reason.

I usually carry and practice with .357 Sig in these two piatols using KKM conversion barrels. They are very good. The stock .40 barrels don't see much use these days.

FYI, RSA replacement is not necessary for conversion barrel use. ;)

That's good to know. My assumption had been that as cheap 9mm range ammo has fairly mild recoil, the action might not cycle reliably. I honestly haven't even tried it with the .40/.357 springs.

Has anybody used the Rock Slide USA 9mm conversion barrel?

The G22 I got is sort of a project gun. I have my unaltered pistols for defensive or CC use. The Glock I have already bought a bunch of aftermarket parts for. Most importantly, an extended mag release (for the gen 3 Glocks this it's a must imo), an extended slide lock, a 3.5lbs trigger bar, a stainless steel guide rod, and a extra power "S" trigger spring. That trigger is REALLY nice. I hope it all works out with the 9mm conversion. I bought a 9mm extractor and 9mm mags for it too.

My whole reasoning was to add .40 s&w to my caliber options when other calibers dry up. I'll probably pick up the .357 Sig conversion barrel eventually as well for the same reason.
