I typically get 1 magazine subscription a year. Last year I got Peterson’s simply because of a single article I read while waiting for my car to get a quick alignment done at the shop. I have enjoyed Peterson’s but it has not won me over as a dedicated life long subscriber. I’m looking for recommendations based on what other folks like. I do enjoy reading stories of other folks adventures whether they be hunting, fishing, or otherwise outdoors stuff. I enjoy some of the technical stuff about new equipment but not enough to jump into a solely technical publication, and I despise a magazine that only wants to hype up the next whiz bang doodad. Peterson’s seemed a decent balance, and at $8 a year (last year anyway) it’s not too pricy, so I may stick with that, but I’m open to other stuff like field and stream.

I don't really care for gun magazines. They have gotten really expensive, and it seems that most of them tend showcase a lot of guns that are out of the price range of most folks. I do get my American Rifleman from the NRA, but I have been thinking about a sub to Modern Pioneer or a similar mag just to learn more valuable skills. Sometimes I will buy the occasional magazine about turkey hunting, because I am still very much learning that sport.

The best magazine out there for us shooters/outdoorsman/hunters/& jacks of all trades is "Backwoodsman" Magazine. ive been buying them since the mid 1990's and get all kinds of info on all sorts of things. They usually have 1 - 2 stories on firearms per issue along with how to do things at lowest cost or DIY.

We don't hunt, but we let others on the property to hunt, thus hunting orientated magazines have no appeal to or for me. Handloader & Rifle magazine, we let the subscriptions expire. As a Life member of the NRA, American Rifleman is part of the membership, but we also subscribe to Shooting Illustrated. Of the two NRA publications I prefer Shooting Illustrated.

My guilty pleasure is American Handgunner. Everyone has an opinion on whether the "gun rags" are simply paid shills for the gun makers (wish the late D. Prisbrey was still here), but I've found AH to be (at least) entertaining with excellent photos, some good op-ed pieces, interesting stories and if nothing else, it's some good gun porn. You can get great deals for subscriptions so it amounts to like a couple bucks an issue for a two-year subscription.

Usually a good article in the blue press from Dillon. -free
Double Gun Journal
Arms Heritage Magazine
Books by Patrick McManus - humorous short stories, also on Audible, first download is free.

I like "Sports Afield", it's all hunting and firearms. If you belong to the NRA or other wildlife groups (RMEF, WSF, DU, B&C etc.) you will generally get a publication quarterly. Lots out there! JM

I like the Quail Forever mag from that group

Your going to get me in trouble. Dillon does not hide the fact that they pay attractive women to pose in attractive manners with their products. I had signed up a couple years before I moved and I seem to recall getting one copy and then the wife started carefully sorting my mail!!!

I get a few every month. Some, like Dillons Blue Press or American Rifleman come with being a customer or member, the others are subscription based.
I like Gun Digest The Magazine for their historical articles.
I like Am Handgunner, RifleSooter, G&A, ST and Guns mag for the articles and the pictures of newer stuff.
I love the reviews in Gun Tests.
Ballistic is more for the bearded bro’s... and Handloader focuses mostly on reloading stuff.
My son likes Hunting and Field &Stream.

I like all facets of shooting sports, so I get a variety of them so every month I find stuff to educate and entertain me.

Stay safe.,
