3DD1CA98-8921-4C7F-9D06-2C7408241029.jpeg Sold a pistol I didn’t use so I could get this. After a long but not unreasonable wait.... it came and I’m excited and I just want to talk about it.

I don’t really care about SNs all that much but at cursory glance they either match or have been forced matched (re-numbered). Hot soapy water on the Cosmoline time!

07/25:

After cleaning the cosmoline off it looks like it’s in pretty good shape!

Congratulations!!! It's an SKS!!!

Yes I think I'm funny....... Enjoy your new rifle!

Good stuff. Best strip it down completely and get rid of the Commi-Cosmoline!:D After that, it’s blessed as a True Red, White & Blue American!

Wow. I'm amazed at the prices those things are getting these days. Not knocking the SKS platform in any way because it's a well built, proven design that's very rugged and long lasting. But after getting accustomed to them being a great bargain for so many years it's not surprising to see prices rise as the demand for a rugged, reliable, affordable rifle rises, then the prices will follow that demand.

That's a very nice plastic tub that you got in the mail, OP.
But it's too short for that rifle

Seriously though, I have always liked SKS carbines.
They are very well designed with an excellent tilting bolt action.
The gas system is very simple and strips easily and completely for cleaning without tools.
The only thing lacking on them is the usually heavy trigger pull.
If you can get past that the accuracy can be quite reasonable at 100 yards.

If you are using the standard corrosive surplus ammo be sure to clean your rifle thoroughly every time using hot soapy water first and then a good bore solvent like Hoppes #9 afterward.

Will do! I’m considering taking it to work and using the parts cleaner
Take the metal apart and toss it in the dishwasher "pots & pans" cycle with a double shot of Cascade.

If you plan on refinishing the stock put it in there as well.

Pull it out a few minutes into the drying cycle (if you leave it in too long you'll get surface rust), then hit it good with compressed air while the metal is still hot enough to dry everything out.

DO NOT DO THIS WITH A GUN CONTAINING ANODIZED ALUMINUM PARTS!

Parts washer seems to be working well enough!

I’ve got ballistol for corrosive ammo thanks to being a commie Mosin shooter. As for heavy trigger pulls, I’m one of the only weirdos on the planet who prefers them heavier.
