Ever been attacked by something when hunting?

I used to sit down behind my ATV and hunt a long stretch of an old logging road. I would sit on a folding chair and rest my rifle over the seat of the ATV. Any deer that stepped out into the road would stop and stare at my vehicle and, if it was a buck and a shooter, it would be a fairly easy shot.

I had a doe come flat out running down the road one day and she jumped over my ATV, and me. About 50 yards behind her was a large German Shepherd, you should have seen him swap directions when I jumped up, yelled and waved my arms. I guess he thought the deer had somehow morphed into Bigfoot!

A few years ago hunting Grouse near Ulen Minnesota I was charged by a large Bull Moose. Since I didn't have time to find a tree to climb in the wood's edge I employed the fasted zipper on the county and sprayed urine as I was upwind. Knowing it scares deer I took a chance and it worked. It stopped sniffed the air, snorted and walked away.

It would have been interesting for whoever found you stomped to the ground by a moose with Little Richard peeking out if it hadn't worked...

When I was a trophy hunter, twice I peed on small bucks under my stand. They didn't react much at all. I'm glad the moose reacted differently than my deer.
Urine is sterile and most animals' urine has ammonia and urea plus water.

Wait you peed off your stand? I was taught to pee in a empty canteen. Used specifically for pee. So deer cant smell it. Never did it. Only hunted deer a few times. Got my first and only buck on my 25 bd. 38 now just prefer small game.

One warmish day in my youth I decided not to wear my boots. So walking in my tennis shoes heading to a place to sit I became besieged on an ankle. After a bout of the pee pee dance I discovered my attacker to by a devil horn neatly wrapped in a death grip on my ankle.
Another was an early morning walk to a bow stand. As I got close I decided to turn my flashlight off and use the lighter colored path to guide me. There were several bushes to go between which was not a bother untill at one pair a covy of Quail flushed out all around me. An out house would have been handy.

Yeah, others do the same thing and tell me that the deer don't react much if any. Now at my age and with my enlarged prostate, if I didn't pee out of my stand, I'd have wet pants all the time. I still average 3 or so deer a year.

That's awesome. If and a big IF I can find somewhere to hunt deer ill give it try.

I guess I was luckier than I thought. If that wasn't the reason he stopped I am very glad he did for whatever reason.

Not peeing from my stand is how I found out I had gout.
