I am thinking about picking up a bolt action rifle in 350 legend to complement the semi auto I now have set up. The American Ranch seems like a good option as I like Ruger stuff and the fact that it uses AR mags is a positive. Any opinions on this platform?

@Skylerbone has been working with on.

I've not had a ranch rifle in .350, or that takes the ar mags. But that's solely based on my dislike for mags that stick out.
I wish they would do a compact that used the old rotary mags, one of those I'd buy.

As to the platform itself it's one of the better deals in cheap compact rifles, I like em.

I love the American rifles in 7.62x39. Buy the crappy Mini-30 magazines at gun shows and use them in the American. Wish they had open sights.

One thing I would check is the .355 vs .357 bore issue. Perhaps email them and ask what they use.

I'm really hoping they make one in 6ARC. I think it'd be a nice cartridge for the carbine. Not a big difference between it and the 6.5Gren. I just think the 6mm is a better match for the case capacity than the 6.5 but that's splitting hairs.

I have one in .450 BM and it is very light but points well with the Leupold 1-4x20 I mounted on it.

Stock is the main weak point IMO as it bends, stretches, and all kinds of other movements but it works and it usually won’t touch the barrel to maintain free float.

I haven’t actually shot mine yet but there is loads of internet evidence that the 450 will get real close or better than 1” groups at 100.

I've owned, or shot several of the Ruger Americans including one ranch rifle in 5.56. Every one of them were way more accurate than a rifle that cheap should be. The stocks are flexy, but the way they are bedded it has no effect on accuracy as long as the fore end doesn't touch the barrel. That is easy enough with a generous free float.

The weak link IME is the standard 4 round magazines. The originals were rotary. They upgraded to a stagger feed 4 round mag that is a little better, but has still caused minor issues for me in my 6.5 CM if loaded with more than 3 rounds. Some of them take AR magazines, some Ruger Mini 30 mags, some use Accuracy International magazines. Every single one of those seem to work fine.

The magazine made for 450 BM is a single stack 3 round magazine. It also works great, even when loaded with 308, 7-08, 243, and 6.5CM. If you buy one in one of those calibers I strongly suggest buying spare 450 BM magazines for the most reliable feeding. They are only 3 round mags, but they work. Sometimes the 4 round mags don't.

That is an astute and very interesting observation. I wonder if Ruger has even seen that connection?

Interestingly the only stock mag I've had an issue with was the one for my 300blk. All the others have worked fine, so much so I asked for the parts to convert my first AI mag rifle to standard.

I do like the centerfeed mags the 450 and magnums use, and rugers 3 round AIC mags.

Here is the first group I shot for accuracy with mine. 3 1/2 inches??!! Haha. Probably the 7, 8, 9th shots through the gun.

Only one type of ammo. Federal 300 gr Power Shok.

Didn’t clean it either. Kind of a no no with a new gun....or any firearm acquisition really. That will probably help. Hornady 250 gr probably will too.

I've got an RAR in 300 Blackout. Awesome rifle. I thought about one in 350 Legend but there was only one for sale on Gunbroker.

I want to build a 350 Legend AR first.
