And people have lost their minds. Prices are insane. Averaged gun price was marked up 20% above average prices. Best thing I found was a Ruger GP 100 in 10MM for $900. Interesting offering but too much $$. Would of paid maybe $600 ish but not that much. Primers were ~$100 x $120 per thousand which I laughed at.

Local to me in the intermountain west I’ve seen primers listed for $150 per 1K on the secondary market. Don’t know if they’re selling for that but that’s the highest asking price I’ve seen for them.

At least your nearest gun show hasn't been permanently cancelled.
Nearby in Germantown TN, though the shows were always really small, none appear on the promotor's website. We can drive 35 miles every several months just across the MS line, or about 90 miles to visit the only available show locations.

High prices are frustrating, but also are expected during these times of non-stop television, weirdly-overlapping concerns that "the sky is falling"?
* At least a gun show offers the chance of a first handling of a gun type which might not be seen in our gun shops.

Have to agree with that.

Again, I (and most on here) would agree that price is too high to allow for adding to my inventory.

However, look at it from the perspective of a reloader who has, for one reason or another, run out of primers.
And do remember that the party leading the current election has stated on their website the intention to eliminate on-line (mail order) sales
of gun related components and ammunition. Maybe or maybe not?
Nobody expects the current surge in sales to end until after the election, best case scenario.

10 cents apiece to reload a round with on hand components sounds better than 35 or 40 cent 9mm, not to mention
the much higher normal times cost (to me anyway) of the larger centerfire handgun calibers.

All of us are in different shape as to ammo/components on hand.
If I was out of primers in this current climate, 10 cents sounds better than not being able to get any at all.

Just saying,
JT

As a Black Powder revolver enthusiasts I’m stocking up on black powder and percussion caps. Lead is free for the scrounging. Law says I can store 50 lbs of black. Push comes to shove One can even make the black powder. Ignition is the Achilles heel. :(

If you have a Gunbroker account you can do a search for sold items.

Primers are selling at that price.

I bought the percussion caps maker die that is for sale on the interwebs and tried it out. Small learning curve, but with a false start or two I quickly made a test batch of number 11 caps, primed them with the mixture the same guy sells, and used them successfully in a target shooting session. Might not be a bad plan b if you are having a hard time buying caps.

True. And as the "back up" to the backups, I do own a few flint locks... ;)

OP/Lenny Joe:
Without a doubt, some of the prices you found indicate that sellers overestimate the level of anxiety...

..or don’t really need such items to sell.

Shanghai McCoy: Flintlocks?! :D
A neighbor has about 80-British, French,US: 1760-1860s-and has never considered shooting any, nor had any safety inspections performed.

Make friends with the guy. Ya never know a flintlock or two or 80 ? Might come in handy someday.

Went to a small show in a nearby town here in N/C Fl yesterday.

Saw some really steep prices on the popular ammo types. But as regards those particular ammo types at least they had them. A lot of folks say "I stocked up in the good times." Good for you then. You won't be out competing for what ammo of those types can still be found. For the new gun owners who weren't owners in those good times they have to take what they can get. Prices are high, but if you have a defense weapon for which you have no ammo then it's useless. Get what you have to have and hope to stock up in better times in the future.

All of this said though at that show I found a dealer with 20 gauge buckshot at pre-panic prices. Bought less than half of it so some other person in need could have a chance as well. I inherited those guns only recently so never needed that ammo until this year. Now they won't just be taking up space in my safe. I haven't been able to find any online for over two months.

Hi...
There was a gun show in Lebanon, Pa. this weekend as well.
Very busy...saw a lot of people filling out 4473s.
No primers to be seen, other than a few shotgun primers.
Prices seemed high on semi auto guns...most revolvers were priced slightly higher than pre panic prices. Bolt action rifles seem to be holding steady pricewise...maybe a bit cheaper. Shotguns seemed to be in good supply with reasonable prices.

I've said it before and I'lll say it again:

Someday we may all have to learn how to knap flint.

The end result of legislators who can't read plain English.

I saw that there was a gun show in C-bus this weekend and was asked if I was going to check it out on our way through heading home. Glad I didn't from the way it sounds, but a friend who went to the last OGCA show already warned me about how ridiculous the shows have become. $125/k primers, $30 steel 9mm ammo, $750 Glocks...

I fully intend to remember those that gouge prices ridiculously so that after this all calms down they won’t be getting any of my business.

Notice I said “gouge prices ridiculously”. I am a capitalist and do believe in the law of supply and demand. I just don’t have any respect for people that blatantly screw their customers.

The question is...to make flints for a flintlock? Or to knap arrowheads!?

A good point[ ! <nyuck-nyuck-nyuck>

Big problem is finding S although I suppose you could use sucrose.

If no one is buying, no is getting screwed. If someone willingly pays the price, then they agree it is fair.
