Monday, I picked up another handgun that I didn’t need. But it’s one I wanted.
It a Gen4 Glock 17, my last issued duty weapon. I had this one for the last four years but didn’t carry it much. I mostly carried my Glock G45.
Upon retiring I had the option to buy my current duty weapon at a prorated price. Monday morning, after finishing up with my checking papers I was told that the price for the gun with the three mags was $308. Now that’s a hell of a deal on a Glock. I was also allowed to keep my duty rig.
This one will most likely end up in the back of the safe with the paperwork and most likely go to one of my kids later on.

Congrats, from the Picture appears to be in good shape. Seems you have enough guns that you will have plenty to do in Retirement. Thank you for your service both Military and Police.

Congrats! Now you have more time to tinker and fix stocks for people. And thank you for your service in all roles you have served. You have served your country, you have served locally, and you have served here as well. It is appreciated brother. Catch a few fish and drink a few cold beverages of your choice, if for no other reason do it because guys like me have another 33 years or longer, and somebody needs to show me how it’s done when I get to that point.

Congratulations on retiring.

I like the serial of the Glock though, it would be more fitting on a hunting firearm. BAGM. (Bag ‘em)

Congrats all around. And it is alway nice to be able to have a firearm that you carried while on duty for your own nostalgia and to pass down to your kids and grandkids.

I had to buy or build clones of what I carried while in the Army since Uncle frowns upon us keeping weapons.

Thanks Gunny for helping keep the town of Baton Rouge safe! I do think that for 20 years of service B R should have presented that weapon to you gratis. On the other hand that weapon kept you safe and was a constant source of security so I'm glad you can continue with it!

Guns are like Lays potato chips. One is never enough.:)

If it had to be a Glock, the 17 is a nice one. I've got no use for Glocks, personal preference, but I won't let my Glock 17 go.

Enjoy your retirement. If you are like me, you'll wonder how you had enough time for work.:)

Thank you all for the kind words.
To tell the truth, I became a police officer at the age of 36 because I was bored. I had no idea at the time how much I would come to love the job.
This is just a new chapter in my life. I am now free to do the thing I want to do. One of those things is starting up a new hobby. I’m going to get into wood turning to help fill the hours of my days. I’m still going to keep working on gun stocks and may even take in more work in the coming months. And I’m going to keep buying guns, even the ones I don’t need.

Gunny, BTW- if you get bored..... tell the P.D. that you are available as "Technical Advisor" at $150/hour. :)
Maybe you have trained a new tech or the dept. has another expert that they can shift in from afar.
Whatever they do, they will never get anyone as well versed on firearms as you are. Thanks again!

Gunny I know how you felt with going through the Academy at age 36. I went through the Academy at age 40 and was the oldest one there. All the other recruits were an average age of between 20 and 25. PT was the hardest. My life before that was as an Electrician and I felt I to needed a change. Loved the job right up to retirement. Today I see from the news that the job is not what it used to be. Good luck on retirement!

Here's to a long and enjoyable retirement Gunny! Thanks for all your many years of service to our country and to the citizens of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Nice to see you get such a great deal on your duty gun and rig as well. Another Glock for your collection...this one is definitely a lot more special than all the others you have!

As one who had a brief stint as a LEO, joining a local force in 1964/67/ after my military service, it’s a job that can demand much from both family and cop. I left as I found I simply could not adapt to the hours. Duty roster was such that rookies covered all the night hours and were rotated as needed between night shifts. No holidays off in those three years.
Hats off to those who serve both military and quasi-military.
