I picked up my first pistol at a shop in Masontown, WV last monday :D . Looking back, I think I might have been jipped a little in the price :( , but there's not much access to shops around here, and no one does ffl's nearby. I paid $527 plus tax for a NIB Springfield XD-9 ported model. This picture is not the actual gun, just the only thing I could find that looked like it.

I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but I can't wait. The choices I had at the shop were between the XD, a Glock 17, and a Springfield 1911 parkerized, all similar price. I chose the XD because it had a slimmer grip than the Glock (have a wife with small hands), and it was a better caliber for me than the 1911. I need cheap ammo because both me and my wife are novice shooters.

While I have not seen a ported XD, porting is custom shop stuff and usually increases price some. Around here, a new XD 9mm or .40 will run $489. But as long as you're withing $40 or $50 of "Normal price", you are OK. If you ever pay more than MSRP, though, you're getting hosed.
