How much do you think you will wind up with in your build? when I looked into it I could buy one cheaper than a 80% build

I don't think Glocks or 1911s and even AKs are like ARs where building is cheaper.
Actually, ARs are the rare things where piece by piece is cheaper. Ever price out a car? I wanna say if you order a 90's style Jeep YJ wrangler from parts, it costs like $55 grand.
But I do know that there was a build kit for $500 from US Patriot Armory (https://uspatriotarmory.com)for $500. However, I've heard baaaad things about that company so I'd be weary.
If anyone has good advice for a cheap but nice build kit, I'm all ears!!!

Building a P80 is not for someone wanting to save money. On the low end it will run about $550, but it would be easy to spend over $1000 on one.
My friend built one and used a Glock 19 Gem 3, for parts, that he picked up cheap at the gun show. The 19 he picked up was one that the frame had been drilled for a lazier sight that mouthed in the trigger guard. The frame was ugly but the price was right. All he did was swap out the frames.
I was going to do the same with my 19, but today I changed my mind and ordered all new upper parts.
I also have my name down for the next Glock 19X that arrives at my LGS.
I just can’t help myself.

I just looked and they run about 400 locally new and about 300 used. I think a lot of people are hung up on the no serial number thing and are willing to pay a premium for that

For me it’s just becoming another fun project. I really like the feel of the frame.

After reading this thread....you guys are a BAD influence on me! Really do like the looks of that frame...so I just ordered one myself in Flat Dark Earth. Haven't had a Glock since the First Gen 19 way back when they first came out...so this is going to be interesting. Went to Midway and just 'one stop shopped' the whole shebang going with the 17 and full size frame. This does look like it will be a fun little project and really just dumbfounds me that we can mail order a complete 9mm pistol (albeit in pieces that need assembled) but need to do paperwork and background check to buy a .22 single shot.
Do you find lots of 'grey guns' at work Gunny? Or do the gangbangers not have the ability or wherewithal to 'build-a-Glock'? Along with the various black powder guns available online it's just so stupid how our politicians have things so insane and want to ban MORE guns now. Craziness.....

I priced out a fairly decent complete build on a P80 frame and came in with a price about $100 less than a new Glock 17. I can also see how you could spend well over $1000 on a build too. Don't really have the money for it now but might pick up a P80 frame and put it away for a future build.

Please keep us informed Gunny. Looks like fun. I've been thinking about an 80% Glock too. I've got a lot of projects higher on my priorities but maybe I can start squirreling parts away.

Was at the range today with a buddy who was testing his build for the first time. Did not work well at all. He's not much of a gun guy so no idea where he may have messed up but it was single shot for most of the range trip. At the end I suggested different ammo and with 147's it did ok (2 jams per mag I think) but still not good. It may wear in still but I have little confidence in what HE built (not that others couldn't do it well and make it work).
I would need more free time, cost to come down, and have to like glocks a lot more to do it myself. Props to those who want to do it though.

The rest of the parts should be here in a few days. I should be able to start on it this Friday afternoon and go shoot it at Bass Pro.

Have seen a couple videos of people having the same problem.....and the solution was to remove more material where the recoil spring and guide go through the frame under the barrel. It needs enough clearance or when the spring compresses it drags and won't cycle properly. Another thing to check is the trigger tab that holds back the striker needs to be in exactly the right place and if it's just a wee bit high it'll drag on the slide. Depending on the parts kit installed you might need to take a little off the tab to free it up. Shouldn't be hard to fix.

Well the slide, barrel and slide parts arrived today. Now all I’m waiting on is the sight set. They should be here in a day or two.

The first step was to remove the extra pieces from the top rail. I don’t have my drill press set up so I did it by hand.
I started with a sanding drum on my dremel.
I then switched to a high speed mill bit to finish it off
Looks like it came out ok.

Here it is all together. The pins were pretty tight but everything went into place. I’m going to bring it to work tomorrow and use a sight tool to install the sights and put some rounds through it.
The slide was a little tight at first, but after playing with it, it feels much better.
