Scope suggestion Henry 22 wmr lever

Getting myself an early Christmas gift - bought the wife a 200-600mm lense for her camera - so getting me a blued Henry 22 wmr lever. Been looking at and looking for a 22 mag lever for a while. Kind of a companion for my single six. My wife gave me a 22 golden boy a couple of years ago and love the action on the rifle. Much smoother than my Marlin 1894C 38/357. May be smoother than my Winchester 94 (early sixties model).
My search finally landed me a new one at a Cabela's a few miles away and they are holding it for me.
While I usually leave my lever's with metal sights, this one I want a scope and looking for suggestions. I have a Nikon Prostaff 9x40 rimfire scope on a 10/22 and really like it. Not sure if I want something that substantial on this gun.
Suggestions appreciated.
 
I have a shootin' buddy with a .22 WMR Henry lever gun that he has scoped. He started out with a low end Centerpoint 3-9x40 air rifle scope on it

After several years of that 3-9x, I gave him an older Nikon Prostaff 2-7x32 that I had used on a .22 WMR rifle of mine. That Nikon is just enough smaller to look more at home on that thin Henry, plus it has better glass throughout even though it's an entry level Nikon.

The newer Nikon's are a bit more chunky in the turrets than the older ones. Plus Nikon is getting out of the rifle scope business, I've heard. So, I'd probably consider a Weaver nowadays.

Edit: Arrrgh. Looks like Weaver doesn't have much to offer these days either. Hopefully that's just a pandemic related issue.

A straight 6 power would be my choice for wmr. If that’s too pricey due to the limited options, consider a 1-4 x 20mm or similar small scope. Most 2-7x scopes just meet my personal aesthetic approval parameters as well.

I have a Henry Classic Lever in .22 mag and it's got a Skinner peep sight, not a scope. It's 100% adequate out to 50 yds and even does pretty well out to 100 yds compared to my scoped rifles.

If your mind is set on a scope, just make sure that your scope's eyepiece bell gives your hammer adequate clearance for cocking / uncocking / safety half-cock manipulation.

I have a Henry 22 mag and put a Vortex 3-9x40 on it because I had it sitting around. Honestly though, I would probably put on something like a Leupold Freedom 1.5-4x20 or Vortex 1-4x20 (which I have on a 22LR) if I were to buy one.
 
Thanks for the responses. The idea of going with a straight power as opposed to a variable power scope is definitely appealing. My 22 gold boy has skinner peep sights - even though I wished I had tang-style - and I like it. But for this gun I am wanting a scope. I have a couple of pairs of Vortex binoculars (mid level models) and am impressed with them. Guessing their scopes are about as nice. A guy at Brownell's suggested the Vortex as a good lower-mid level option. I have a Leupold on my Winchester Model 70 (probably 40 years old) and love it, but probably over kill for this plinker. Would something like a simmons or Bushnel 4x32 be a reasonable option? Not known for great glass, but curious if they are that bad.
 
I guess one other question. Is there a reasonable approach to provide both iron sights and scope. I did see some quick-release mounts at the henry site.

A high power rifle with high power recoil for hunting high value game versus a low recoil rifle shootin' close range rodents or cans? I'm not sure I'm seeing the problem.

I have the Simmons 22 MAG scopes on my 10-22’s as well, one blue and one silver. They’ve shot fine for me and they weren’t very expensive.

I still like unscoped lever guns, so I didn’t scope my Henry .22 Mag or either of my Henry .22 LR’s. I put a Skinner peep on the youth model and I'm in the process of adding a second Skinner peep to the other (H001) .22 LR. (I need a taller front sight.)

The scope grooves on the magnum won’t fit the groove on the Skinner sight I recently bought, so I think I’m going to send it to Skinner to have it drilled and tapped for one of their other peep sights (and a taller front sight, too.) .

I really like the magnum model, I’m sure you’ll feel the same way about your new rifle as quickly as I did :thumbup:.

I have a $50 Simmons scope on my Savage B22 .22 mag and can hit a three inch bird-shaped steel at 100 yds with it. I think the question of matching scope price to rifle price or caliber is a mismatch. Scope should be matched to intended range. A $50 scope for 500 yds is a mismatch. A $500 scope for 100 yds is a mismatch.
 
I don't shoot my .22LRs much, since getting a .17 HMR barrel for my 455Tikka. I don't plink as much as I used to and rarely go to my Club range to shoot rimfires like I used to. The .17 HMR is such a capable round, I find myself plinking spots on the face of boulders in the blueberry field out back, out to about 100 yards, the limit where I can easily spot hits on the rocks. I don't shoot anywhere bullets can ricochet, even though there's nothing that can be harmed within several miles in the easterly direction. The rifle can group .17 HMR bullets in a bit less than 1" at 100 yards and is perfect for walkabouts in the fairly open areas along the field access road, etc. That rifle boasts a fluted heavy barrel and it hangs really nicely for offhand shots and still carries well.
 
Well, the local (60 miles away) did get in a few Henry's. They had the blued round and octagonal barrel and the golden boy in 22 mag. Was hoping to see the silver one. No luck. Bought the blued octagonal, which is also about 2 inches longer than the round barrel - even though I liked the sights on it better..
Odd to see such a big store with only a few boxes of any metallic cartridges in stock.
Anyway, I did not handle any scopes. That will probably be a yule purchase. I did not see any scopes that matched the image I wanted in their display cases. Don't recall a single non-variable power scope.

I agree. The rimfires you shoot all the time deserve good glass. Or should I say, for the guns you shoot all the time, YOU deserve good glass. ;)
