It was 500$ and with fees etc and tax maybe 550$
Fair shape, not perfect. But worth it TO ME
for a pre 64 winchester 30-30.
If i had known, it was rechambered to the AI i would have NOT purchased it.

I was thinking about your situation after my previous reply, while I was practicing with my crossbow for this afternoon's hunt. 2 things occurred to me- 1- do you still have the receipt, and is 30-30 or 30 WS marked on it, and 2- on the second page of the 4473 that was executed at the time of transfer (the page the dealer fills out) if it says 30-30 or 30 WS on it- then there is a discrepancy in the accuracy of that federal form 4473 , which is a separate matter from the customer service component, but definitely "thought provoking". As I previously stated- I would push this matter UP the Cabela's chain of command. As in, I wouldn't try to further engage with that store on the matter.

They will probably tell me to go away since it has been several years....but what if i hadnt fired the gun until now and noticed the problem until now? People often dont buy a pre 64 Winchester 30-30 and shoot it the next day, or at all for that matter.

They could also argue there is no proof that the gun hasnt been modified [by me] since it left the store.
Do used guns have an "AS IS" policy?
If they were smart, they would have something like that..... ill bet lots of "marginal safe" used firearms are sold through there. Even though my 30AI is technically safe (provided the modification and re chambering was done correctly, which i also cant verify either, which makes me apprehensive to shoot it, or pass down to my kinfolk!!!
Id like the gun gone, and wish Cabelas be the ones to eat it.

Just say you are a collector of rare or interesting guns. You did contact them early but was told that they would not address it and implied they never lose in small claims. In other words, they have a load of lawyers and you will never be able to afford a lengthy case.
May or may not be true, but like I said, their cost to defend something of this small cost, would not be worth their cost.
You will only cost the filing fee. Show up at the court date and refuse their request for extensions Might work

Put it up for sale on GunBroker. Might even be able to double your money. If not interested in GunBroker list it on here. Not keen on shipping. Google your state and firearm forum's. Join and sell local. Or shoot the snot out of it.

Don't take this wrong, but let's take a moment to look at it from their perspective.

They sell you a firearm, marked as .30-30, and with no indication that it has been modified. 60+ days later, you contact them, and tell them that they sold a modified rifle. They don't know you from Adam, and for all they know, you, or your agent, did the modification, and that you are now unhappy with the way that it turned out. What do you expect them to do?

Not remarked nor tagged in any way by Cabelas. Im sure it was sold to them by someone who knew, but didnt tell them. Also want to add that the trigger is extremely light. Lightest hair trigger ive ever pulled, its very nice....and also question the safeness of how light the trigger is.....Any lighter and a fart in the same vicinity would trip it.

Yeah, contacted Cabela's 60 days after sale and was blown off, you had a case. Then waiting several years to address it again and I think a reasonable person would say it's way too late.

I have bought firearms and not gotten around to firing them for a month or longer, so I understand the OP's original situation.

So, how much do you want for it? Seriously, if you don't want it as is (which is how ALL used guns are sold by cabelas) list it for sale and move on. A mistake was made by them, and one by you for not getting back quick enough. Don't stress it, show us a few pictures of the gun and the brass to give us a better idea, and then list it for sale.
Btw, the Ackley chamber doesn't make it unsafe, it just makes for lower velocities while fireforming. I'd be pleasantly surprised if this happened to me, but I am a tinkerer and am always messing with obscure stuff.

It has been several years now, should that matter?

Why on God's green Earth did you wait until post # 46 - that's FORTY SIX--- to share that little nugget of reality?

In my opinion this thread is a bust. I take back my well intended comments about you deserving a store credit. Attempting to make a case for return or credit after several YEARS would be ridiculous.

I can understand wanting a classic rifle chambered for a classic cartridge. But, to me, the difference isn't that big. You can still shoot factory ammunition. The interwebz is you friend. I imagine you've looked some things up. Anyway, the idea of 30-30 AI intrigued me and I did a little looking. I came across several discussions. Here's one:

I thought it was interesting that it was compared to the 30-40.

This thread IS a bust.
I appreciate the encouragement to get dies and road for this unique caliber, I think ill do that.
I should have mentioned this was a few years back in the original posting. ....my bad
