Wet leaves, snuck in and got by my creekstand, before light.
Put on my camera swing arm (quietly) and hauled my rifle up.
Its about shooting time..........BOOM.

Shot at edge of our thicket.
Think neighbor kid snuck in.

See a button on other side of creek. He and his sister been by a few times this year.
Now he is alone.

Sit a couple hrs, get down and shed some clothes at Jeep, gonna sit for a couple more at buds stand near thick stuff.
Whoops, there's the button in the beans, feeding just behind a rise.

Climb 25 ft up into stand, man he needs to redo the steps (some grown in).
And proceed to see NOTHING.

I sat nearby last Sun and had a busted rack 6 pt come by at 35 yards, let him go.
That 6, a 5 and a forky all we have seen antler wise, since mid Oct.

People blasting all around the gun opener. See groundblind just past edge of field.
Suspect there and spot adjacent has been hit hard by X bow hunting.
Have vehicles w deer in the back on our field trailcam.

Not many does around, yet they've been killing em.

I literally live for deer season, and had hoped for some fun.
Its been windy, rainy and nothing worth shooting.

Pretty bummed.

Trail cam did show a 100" 8 and another that might go 140".............around midnight.
Due to patchwork small woods and big fields, we knew that was the norm.

But last 5 yrs we have bucked out regularly w medium 8 pts or better.

Not this yr.

I work 2nds so running out to hunt on 2 or 3 hrs sleep is pretty brutal.
Am burnt out.

Final weekend is this coming.

Used to hunt bigger and better ground.
While I enjoy being outdoors, I am there with a purpose.
I've killed enough stuff, don't have to kill.
Want to see stuff where I can make the choice.

Like to grill venison.
Gotta kill to grill.

Not enough does. So looking for 100" or better buck.
Aint happening.

Pretty honked off.

Know part of the reason, with the shots along the fence and possibly on our place.
Bud will have the CO come out tomorrow.

Hang in there...
I used to go fishing instead of sleeping.

Just remember. It's about being in the woods as much as it is about killing deer.
I typically get 4 days of deer hunting. So I feel blessed when I'm in the woods.

Yup!

I saw lots of deer on my 1st period IL hunt, largest were 8 pointers at 25 yards. This is sorta QDM property, typical 8 pointers get a pass.

I’ll be going down for round 2, also have a few anterless tags.

Back bothered me last night.
Took camo goose mat and laid down by a stump. Buddy farther in, his reg gun stand.
Neither of us saw a thing.
17 acres of zero.

Try again tomorrow, maybe.

Killed a 110" 8 pt next to last day one year, but that deer ran across an open field to our thicket.....musta been pushed.

The guys 2 fields over have been shooting everything. Think the button i let walk yesterday got smoked as a half hr later they shot.

Yeesh

Caseys biscuits n gravy were fresh and toasty this morning. High point of the day.
Go home and head to gunshop.

Maybe one up north, take my 77mkII to trade

Season here in NY has been going for a week, today is day 8, I've o KY been in the woods once. Can't go after work cause it's dark when I get out. Worked saturday morning but had things to do with my wife, Sunday we had to go visit daughter and grandkids, dark when we got home.

I've seen a total of 1 deer in the woods, a spike with 4 1/2 in antlers, he came home with me. I did shots as I posted u see a tree, but not as many as in past years. Until I shot mine. Shots were being fired on 3 sides of me. Wonder what my shot scared away.

Gun season over. No shots fired. Biggest seen was a busted 6 pt.
Family medical stuff has come, dunno if I'll get back out. Proly not worth it anyway.
Waited all yr for this, and it sucked. Now 11 months of the grind in hopes I have a good day next yr.
Friggin' ridiculous.

Be thankful you were able to get out and go. Some of us had to battle health issues and didn’t even get to our annual Varmint safari, not to mention deer and antelope hunting in Montana.

Yesterday we went over to the Bobell State Forest and come across a 87 year old Vietnam ver that walked out of the hospital the day befor to get out and get in a day of deer hunting. He was at rge road in the woods up a steep enbankment and couldn't get out of the woods. We stopped and my grandson brought his pump shotgun dow to the road, Jim grabbed one arm, i grabbed his other arm and helped him down the embankment and up out of the ditch to the car. We gave him a ride 1/2 a mile up the road to were his hunting partners were parkd. He couldn't manage to get his rigjt leg in the car so we lifted the back gate and he sat in the back fot the ride up to where he needed to be.
He said he would rather die in the woods deer hunting then die in the hospital.

I have battled a screwed up back and had to have my appendix out right before season.
Proly been fighting appendicitis for months.
Back pain is about half what it used to be.

No out of state hunts, truck too old, been running kid back and forth to doctors.
Now my dad aint doing well.

There's always next yr, or so I have said the last 10 yrs.
Looks like 11 months of BS til I get to try again.

The fun factor was minimal this season. Not enough to recharge my already low batteries.

Was pretty burned out before season started.

It is sad to hear the hardship of others and I am sorry that things didn't work out. Fortunately my season has been great. I am retired, have permission to hunt a farm that is literally infested with deer and I am the only one that hunts it. Many people don't know what to do with retirement. Not a problem here. My blessed wife has come to the conclusion that we don't have many years left on this earth and she lets me do just about anything that I want. I would guess that I have spent at least 30 days in the woods over the last 2 months. I have 6 more days of this season, plus, 3 days of blackpowder, 3 days of private land doe season and a 3 day rifle after Christmas. Sorry guys, but for me, LIFE IS GOOD.

We see a lot of deer, but we are out every day of the season. I take a month.off of work for New York deer season. I can't remember a year with no deer harvested. I generally take two, last year I harvested five. I have a lot of venison away last year and made a lot of venison jerky.

The majority of “hunters” if not all have been there done that. Maybe that’s why it’s called hunting. ;)
