Would you trade a Glock 26 for a Colt Detective?

Nice! (I'd make that trade, seven days a week and twice on Sundays).

Sad that so many would rather keep a pedestrian Glock 26 and pass on a great revolver, a piece of history, but I guess that's our culture now. Just like you can't fix a broken microwave oven, you've gotta buy a whole new one. Boring and ugly is the new normal; video games and virtual reality over living real life and physical activity

Thanks for lumping me in with other all other Californians...I wasn't born here, been a lifelong conservative and a Republican and a life member of the NRA.
I wouldn't dream of fouling your utopia with the likes of me.
 
I discovered that my new Colt DS was made in 1972 according to the serial number.

S/N C234xx

I traded Tom because he really wanted to have a great model DS "since childhood" my son got his very nice Glock 26 , it was sent to FFL in Oregon. My son wanted and needed a very small larger cap defensive handgun for all day every day (he has a Oregon CCW) carry in and around his govt. Testing lab which is also a DEA testing lab and has very very expensive equiptment and although surrounded by lots of cameras and an 8' high concertina topped fence is in a wild and wooly area somewhat desolate. He knows attacks would come most likely from a PU with several armed bandits (all though he has minute quantities of anything they would want) and he is trained and a bigger morepowerful and smarter me. He has on had stuff to propell borders , but the inside the wasteband G26 is perfect for him and an up grade of his Walther PPS 9mm which I will get in the trade ! He cannot carry his favorite G20 all day under his lab coat BTW ! :) So I am happy with the trade and Tom sweetened the deal with other things that are in very short supply these days :).

Well being 72 thats why the bluing and overall build quality was so suppieor to the other smae generation ones I had! I believe that is the first years of the Shrouded barrel Model as I had 1970 unshrouded Cobras. The Det that had it was retired and had 4th stage lung cancer , no doubt from all the cigs he smoked when I would meet him in mornings at the coffee shop in Moss Landing Ca on my way to work. He lived about two miles away. He worked on and off at a Gun Store in Watsonville . I also bought his Browning Model 1955 .380 , in about same condition as your DS in it's Browning zipper pouch for about the same $ as the DS , a few months later as he further deteriorated. I visited him at home a few months after that , he was on Oxygen, he had a loving caring family and then , about 1991 he was gone.. RIP ! Those were his back up guns. As I remember he was a MC officer in a dept. in Socal. at first , moved to Monterey in 1972 or so, Maybe thats when he bought the Colt. . He did say the Browning was his back up "down south" Ill get a picture, I think I have one of the Browning. It was sold 5 years or more ago when I started selling down. I had a C series BHP and a Lt. weight Baby Browning and added the .380 model 1955 to a Browning 3 gun presentation case and got $2800 in one sale on GB in a week ! Top prices for each model (at the time) , I did well !
 
I just researched it as I was interested it was 1973 , early, not eh 1982 ish I was under the impression he bought it. Early 1973 was the introduction of that Model Colt DS ! You have a first year of production gun, which is usually a good thing $ wise !

Thanks for the info above on the Detective you got the DS from. :thumbup:

From what I have found the gun was made in 72 with 73 series mods so it definitely is first year production of that model. It may increase it’s value, but no matter. I will not be selling it. ;)

You did a good thing. The new owner now not only has the revolver he's wanted since childhood, but a new story about an old hero to go along with it. My hope is, the story and respect it earns lasts longer than the revolver.

Why sad...one gent wants a Glock, for whatever reason, has the Colt that he's wanting to trade..seems like the best for both..hardly sad. Tools, one is better suited to this gent than the other...Not a religion, IMHO...
but I figure this person wants something with more capacity, faster reloads and convenience, maybe.

'Virtual reality over real life'..I think for EDC, I'd much rather have the boring and ugly choice.
 
As I said; my son in Oregon wanted the smallest , lightest at least 12 rounds of 9mm option he could get. He actually needs it because of the remote area his business is in and it's nature and the horrible desparadoes in the area. . He understands the Glock system well and has other larger Glocks. He has J frame snubs but the threats he may face will probably be multiple armed assaults .He can use those 9mm Glock mags in the braced and Aimpointed Ruger PCC Charger he would be fighting his way to retrieve if it was possible. Prices for Glocks are about double right now, if you can find one !.And Pat Riot really sweetened the deal and will cherish my cherished DS and deserved having it. Merry Christmas.

The purpose of a handgun is to fight your way to a rifle.
 
I will be at my LGS at 2:01pm this Saturday to pick up my new DS. That will be exactly 10 days after starting the transfer. California is a so weird...
15 minutes later I will be at my range with a selection of ammo to see what my new Colt likes. The first rounds will be 148 grain Federal Wadcutters. Just seems appropriate, :)
