Is ammo getting cheaper and more available ?

Dang you've had quite a time. Cheers to you for getting through. I keep an AR for HD in 5.56, and use 77gr OTM rounds in it for defense. A case I bought around 2009 took until this year to dwindle enough for me to replace it. I'll practice with 55 or 62 gr, and only run the heavier rounds for sighting in a new optic, functions checking the gun after I change something on it, or occasionally to see just how tight my groups can really be.
I stick with M193 for self-defense since engagement ranges are likely to be short, most likely opponents will not be wearing body armor or understand cover vs. concealment, and target effect at close range is generally better.

I don't expect the ammunition situation to get any better any time soon, and will likely get worse. If I feel the need to practice, I've got a Dillon 550 and enough components to sparingly reload 5.56x45mm. My "basic load" remains reserved for repelling assaults.

My first *** for 2021. Got an email this morning from cheaperthandirt telling me about this great deal for 9mm ammo. Am i missing something ?

With shipping and tax that has to be $1.50 per round. They (CTD) seem to be reinforcing their reputation.

I was killing time at Scheels tonight.
A worker came up to me and asked if i wanted some 9mm. He had a box from returns.
100 rounds Winchester for 34.99, i felt like i was robbing the place.
The the trick is to show up there the minute they are putting it on the shelves i guess and you can pay what use to be closer to normal prices

Out here most big box stores are out of stock. Fin Feather Fur has some but the prices are double what they were 6 months ago.

Word from the manufacturers is that they are so behind on orders that it will be at least summer before they are caught up on orders.

By then there'll be an "assault weapon" ban and a twenty round box of 9mm 115gr. FMJ will be $200... and you'll have to go to the a big box store to get it... and have a background check run.

Only see shotgun ammo any more and even its getting thin. Some shops have signs asking to buy ammo and components,

Stopped by Brownells this afternoon, had plenty of 9mm in the retail store. Twenty round boxes of some weird off brand for $24 a box. Not many people buying it that I could see.

Good friend sent me some spare .380 as none available locally at any price. May add component shelves have also been emptied. Store moved other stuff to fill entire racks. Must be how they felt in former USSR. Add in a reported 7-12+ million new gunowners of late and projected home values to rise 12+% this year it this may be, well, "interesting".

It feels like it to me. Seeing cheaper prices on Ammo seek and what not and all my local stores seem to have it more regularly.

I cannot see another surge of new gun owners like we had since April but of course you never know. I think we will definitely see on average more new gun owners from here on out.

I am selling a H&K and the guy wants to trade for ammo so i am trying to decide if it is worth it. If prices are going higher it is otherwise probably not.
If only.

I looked at CTD
Then I bookmarked a 9mm selection and a 223 selection, both FMJ basics, and, their current price considerably north of $1.00/round

Then I washed my hands, went outside for a gust of fresh crisp air. I still feel unclean, I need church now.

Thankfully it's Sunday.

Everyone have a gr8t day

Looking around online I see some places that have more inventory than they did a few weeks back. I'm seeing more options and availability on ammoseek although the prices haven't moved much. Locally I see it's around for a few hours the day they stock the shelves, once the scalpers and hoarders find out about it it's gone though.

380 was at my local Murdocks Friday and expensive but available here.

Might want to trundle over here...more guns bought than last year but no real way to tell if they are 'new' or people just buying more guns..Me and my son's bought 7 new guns this year.

The data seems based on "reported" sales by the currently unreliable media. In reality actual "sales" cannot be measured. Like the demand for TP, everyone either wants or has "acquired" with little thought to cost. Could real numbers may be off scale?

Went to our Bi-mart yesterday. More empty shelves. Nothing but a very few shotshell boxes. Lots of signs saying "no ammo". Clerk asked me not to take a pic. Very elderly couple from out of town asking why shelves are bare which was somewhat unsettling as they said really needed some .38 for home defense. I always cruise by to see if any small amounts show up but clerk said they have been told nothing is coming in right now.

In in Colorado, we have the following...

1. Big boxes putting ammo out a reasonable prices (9mm FMJ at $15ish per 50) that sells out in a few hours, even with limits.

2. LGS with non-inflated pricing but no stock. I have actually sold some of my cache to my local shop so they can supply a box with a new gun purchase. This is because my relationship with the shop goes back to high school and I like them.

3. LGS with plenty of stock, but at inflated prices (9mm FMJ at $35-40 per 50). I have not bought much of anything there.
I've got family in colorado and they can't find <removed> ammo locally as they live in the BFE rockies...

This is scaring me. I haven't had any luck with online ammo in probably 8-9 months. I ordered 2-500rd cases of wolf for $124 ea. I got a shipping delay notification, that was in May or June of 2020. Said expected delivery date of 10/2020. The October came and new delivery date came, January 2021. I'm wondering how it's possible that wolf steel case hasn't hit Sportsmans Guide warehouse floor in all that time. I'm afraid when I finally get the delivery I'm going to have to sell it or cancel it because I'm not paying outlandish prices. I'll pay more but not CTD prices.

I backordered some stuff on Opticsplanet. They say they won't charge the card until they have something to ship. I dropped some steel-cased 9mm into the cart in early October, some steel 308 in mid November, steel 223 in early December. Price was what you'd say was average for brass pre-covid; 22 cents a rd for the 9, 37 cents for the 308, 36 cents for the 223.
Expected delivery date has been rolling back, usually tacks on a day if you check the next day. I just checked right now, it's rolled back another month o_O

I guess the way things are, if this comes I probably will like the price (which is why I put in the order). I have to keep an eye on this, because with my luck they'll all come into stock and ship the same day... which would be quite the hit on my card.
