I found this website a good way of searching for ammo availability.

If the ammo selected is available from a seller it shows up as red, otherwise it is gray. I check once or twice a day and actually found some .223 at regular prices.

I ordered and it is now on the way.

Hope this helps others.

"out of stock"

Went to my two prefered sellers AIM and ammunition to go and just about every pistol caliber and most rifle also is nadda...zilp...zilch...nope...

Wanted to go experiment soon with a couple grains and brands but instead there will be open lane at the range where I would have been but won't.

Someone who buys the ridiculous prices I see right now if you can find some is akin to a heroin junkie paying anything for a fix.

That is a perfect analogy and the heart of the problem. These frightened herd buyers are the ones that are keeping prices rediculously high:banghead:.

Dampoo, thanks for the post and spreading the word. I'm the creator of gun-deals and just wanted to thank you for bringing it to members' attention. Sure, prices now suck but for people who want ammo, we're gonna try like hell to keep everything updated so people can find it. We've been doing this for 5 years and have seen the swings before. The good news is that it seems the current panic is subsiding and things aren't selling out as fast. Only a matter of time before prices drop again....

lionking, what are you looking for? 7.62x39? 5.56? 7.62x54? 9x18? .30-06? You get the idea?

:what:

Granted, you have to stand in front of the shop at 10am waiting for the UPS truck, but when my LGS gets .223/5.56 in right now, he's charging $8/box // $400/case. He has some match / hunting stuff (68, 75 grain) for up to $17/box, but I would rather give up my beloved hobby than pay $44/box for bulk .223.

The last 7.62x39 he had went at $275/case (about a week ago).

He's really trying his best not to gouge. He survived the '94 and '08 craziness by keeping his prices fair and is doing the same thing this time around.

A WalMart rep. told a fellow Atlanta employee of a warehouse in a Georgia town which has lots of ammo. His impression was that it sells retail.

I doubt that it is Georgia Arms, but it is possible.
The guy who talked to the rep. unfortunately could not remember the name. It is doubtful that the WalMart guy knew what he was talking about, because lots of people would already have raided the place.

Folks its only going to get worse before it gets better. I'm seeing 9mm pushing the $0.50 a round level on gunbroker. I recently paid $0.42 a round for 1000 rounds of bulk Remington UMC 45acp. Not my first choice in 45acp ammo but its all I could find and its enough to get me through July if I use it for matches only and no practice.

You guys should check the "find in your store" function on Wal-Mart's website. My local store had Federal and Tula 9mm, Federal Auto Match .22LR, and Tula .223 in stock yesterday morning. I never would've known if I hadn't checked Walmart's website first.

I stopped in on my way to work and picked up a few boxes. When I checked stock again later in the day, they had sold out. You've just got to make a habit of checking in the morning to see if your local store has any. They sell out quickly.

Thanks that's good to know.

Been to every one in town, see the same thing every week...

Agreed in principle but it's all relative to how much people make; if you have the $ and you're out of ammo, play capitalist.

Things may be beginning to ease up a little. I bought 5 boxes of AE 9mm today at the LGS. They have a 5 box per day, per person limit - but at least they have some in stock. This same store had been out of all 9mm for several weeks. I paid $16, but that's not bad considering the current shortage.

BTW, I would not have known of the availability if it weren't for a tip from a fellow THR poster. I love this forum.

Thanks Spyder, I just found a bunch of .22lr at stores i didn't even realize I passed on my way to work. Of course it helps that I live in Arkansas, the land of Wal-Mart.

Update-

I just went to a Wal-Mart that was showing in stock plenty of different .22lr. I said to the clerk that their site showed some in stock and he said don't trust that thing. Apparently they have been getting a lot of people coming in because of their website. He said they hadn't had any for at least a week.

Why did/do people recently start behaving as if there will be No regular, future ammo shipments?

What initially prompted such conclusions, even If it much of it then was somehow transformed into vague, reflexive animal behavior?
Maybe new legislation to add high taxes, or to ban imported ammo?

I have nothing against free markets (usually) and I have nothing against capitalists.

However I do have something against fear mongering and stupidity. For ten years I have read excuses why ammo prices jack up, " because the Iraq and Afghan war", because metal prices are going up", "because inflation", "because Obama was elected" and so on.

While that may be true to a extent, what I really think it is mostly is gun people's fear, and certain within the gun community who profit perpetuating fear.

If people would just say no to buying for a while prices would go back down to pre levels, pre 2008 levels maybe. I went to the range a couple weeks ago and the range was pretty empty, probably because most can't find ammo or won't buy the most premium ammo to practice.

But fear is being perpetuated making people believe they must buy ten years worth of ammo or they never will be able to. The people who wipe out Walmart then sell it on gunbroker for three times as much love that.

I can understand the first month after this situation that happened but now it is becoming more apparent that politicians aren't willing to pass draconian laws but what do I read from some posters?. 'Oh don't believe it it still might happen, get it now or you'll be sorry...buy buy buy now!"

As far as what people make I don't care but I hate seeing shooting become a rich man's sport. It is one thing to see a box of 375 H&H mag at a high price, but when crap Wolf .223 is being sold at $1 or more a round?, frankly if people just refused we would get back to a affordable situation sooner and the gougers would stop hording.

There is no way I am going to pay $20 for 20 rounds of steel cased or generic .223 , I don't need to shoot that bad. So I will do my little part and not buy right now until prices become more reasonable again. But like many other things, once a seller gets a taste of bringing in high profit, they resist as much as possible to sell low again demand or not.

My company, in 2008 when gas first spiked at $4 a gallon, we added a $1.50 delivery charge. When gas went back to $2 months later do you think the fee ended? No, it became permanent because that was a nice little extra charge that didn't want to be ended. So when gas went back up again , the company raised the charge to a $1.75. When it went back down again do you think the charge was lowered to $1.50 again? No the $1.75 stayed.
