.30 Carbine JSP bullets in .327?

Google says .312 (327) vs .308 (carbine). Guessing you wouldn't get the best accuracy.

Hornady XTPs in 85 and 100 grain run .312. All the lead bullets I have are either .313 or .314.

Never used anything close to .308 dia in .327FM.

Long ago Ross Seyfried wrote an article on a Ruger single action 32 mag and in his test he tried some Speer Plinker bullets in .308 and reported very good accuracy with them. He said he didn't know if they were bumping up to fit but you could see the rifling marks in the recovered bullets. That being said if I wanted to shoot my 327 I would scrounge up some lead and buy a Lee 94gr SWC mold and just cast some lead bullets. I have a couple of Lee 32 caliber molds and cast the bullets I shoot the most. If you have never cast bullets its fun and its easy to do. Just be careful or you will find yourself buying more molds. I did. I have 26 now IIRC.

Yeah, cast and powder coat is the best option for cheap .327 bullets that won't lead from the high velocity. If you don't cast and have a Lee Lube & Size kit that uses your press as a sizer, Matt's Bullets will send you unlubed and unsized 120 grain .32 bullets that you can then powder coat and size.

He's backlogged due to demand right now. Will take over a month to get the bullets.

My .32swl dies I use (Lee) won’t size down the Starline .327Mag cases to sufficiently hold a .30Carbine 110gr Rn FMJ. These bullets are actually .307” (Armscor), so are loose (slip fit)in the cases.
I can use my .32acp dies to size them down enough to hold the bullets.
Accuracy is marginal. Sufficient for short range plinking. However, with a substantial collection of .311-.314” molds and substantial stash of lead I can’t justify wasting good .30Carbine jacketed bullets.
.311” FNGC 113gr bullets shoot well, but .314” are better yet.

I'd give it a try. I've loaded Speer .358 swc 158 gr in 38 S&W and they worked well.

Not sure how jacketed bullets will work.

Just curious. What’s making you want to shoot these through the .327? Are you out of other jacketed bullets options due to the current ‘situation’ or just feel like experimenting?

You clearly aren't aware of the lack of jacketed and plated bullets for .312" bullets; it's awful. There's two XTP options, Berry's 71 grain meant for .32 ACP that you can't exceed 1250 fps or Berry's says the plating gets stripped off, the 90gr Sierra bullet that costs a minimum of 25 cents/bullet, and then a solid copper Lehigh bullet that costs more than twice was the Sierra bullet costs.

That's it, 4 options the cheapess one is the XTP at roughly 20 cents a bullet. The Speer 100 and 110 grain bullets cost less, either half or almost half as much as what the XTP's do if you buy them when Speer has a 20% rebate that they seem to do every year (probably not this year tho )

They may be a little undersize for the bore, but not too terribly small, and for the .327 revolvers are more than adequate for practicing with typical handgun distances at the high velocities of the caliber minus the cost of other bullets.

Im pretty well aware of the dearth of available options in the .312 jacketed bullet arena as I have 7 .327 FM’s and 3 .32 H&Rs to feed.

kBob gave no indication in his post of what his current bench stock situation is as related to his .312 inventory. Only asking if any members of the raven pack have shot any .30 cal through their guns.

So, he could be sitting on 5,000 .312 dia bullets and just happens to have .30 carbine he wants to experiment with. Or, he could be between a rock and a hard place....like many of us trying to scrounge through the hard times we’re currently in.

I’m still curious why he’s trying to do that because depending on his answer I might be able to assist.

Well as TTv2 noted, jacketed bullets are a weak point in the .312 dia retail market lineup. I’d love to see some JSP options in the 120/125/130 grain range.
