Anyone use this bullet as a 9mm defensive round? What is your experience with powder charge and COL? The issue I have is trying to get the required 1100+fps out of my G26's short barrel with published data.
Here's what I have:
The bullet plunks easily at 1.085 in my Glocks. My current carry load is Rem GS 124 +P. this runs 1126 in my 26 and 1190 from my 17. This bullet has a very long nose for a JHP, but plunks fine.

AutoComp- Hodgdon's site lists 5.4 max for 1120fps from a 4" barrel. But the COL is 1.150 (Berry's)
Since this is a popular 9 major powder, there's lots of data out there of people using way more (upwards of 7 grains) powder than max, presumably in race guns built for these pressures.
I have a few loaded to 5.4, and a few loaded to 5.8 to test. These are the charges that come out of my AutoDisc. Might be awhile before I can chrono these.

TrueBlue- Western lists the RMR 5.9 (+P) for 1141fps, 4", 1.120"
Are people able to seat this bullet that long?

I also have some W244 and TiteGroup on hand, but are probably not suited well to this task.

I'm on the same quest, but not with a G26. Got my first order of RMR MPRs recently. I lucked into some Sport Pistol, and a +P load looks like it will get me there.

I wouldn't use Titegroup for a hot load; it burns hot in standard loads. I'd limit it to target loads.

Below is the only data I have at 1100fps. I'll be working up another load soon with sport pistol and power pistol.

Test results: Rocky Mountain Reloading: Multi Purpose Round: (MPR) Max OAL 1.080 124 grain Jacketed Hollow Point Tite Group

CZ SP01: 4.0 grain
Standard Deviation: 17.515
Average FPS: 1105.2

Rocky Mountain Reloading Multi Purpose Round: (MPR) max OAL 1.06 124 grain Jacketed Hollow Point Tite Group

CZ Shadow 2: 4.1 grain
Standard Deviation: 7.09
Average FPS: 1106.4

BE86 and Silhouette are both good choices.

Edit:
I also like WSF but it will not give vels as high as BE86 and Silhouette.
My current match load is a RMR 124 MPR with 4.4-4.5gr of WSF gives about 1040fps,
MAX is around 5.1 5.2 with the OAL I use 1.08.

I worked up full power loads for this in WSF, N340, AA5, and CFE Pistol. I use a COL of 1.120”. You may get there with faster powders but it’s tough to say if you’ll stay within published data limits. That’s already difficult given you’re altering COL and your bullet isn’t listed.
If all you have is W244 and TG I’d start with W244 and leave TG on the shelf. My testing of W244 shows it to be similar to 231 but produces a bit more velocity. TG gets erratic fast with decreasing case volume. Good luck.

I only mentioned w244 and TG to note that was the powders I have on hand. I’ll be using WAC and TrueBlue for my development because that’s what I have and they should get me close to where I want to be. Powder is tough to buy these days. It’s hard to find locally, and expensive online if you just want to try a pound.
Has anyone chronoed these powders with short barrels?
AA7 would probably get the velocity but I’m thinking the flash would be spectacular from a 3.5” barrel.

I'll keep an eye on this thread as I have some of those bullets on order and I've never used them before. I plan on using CFE as I have it on hand, and working up some test loads with my chronograph. From the data I have it looks like it will take a near max load to reach 1100 fps. I only have one pistol I intend to run them in so plunk testing should give me the proper COL.

We've had tons of different powders tested. The one that gives the best velocity for lowest pressure is BE86. While the bullet will usually work at 1100, I highly recommend you get them to 1150 to be 100%. We can only test them so often and as tooling wears, it takes just a little more velocity to get them to open right. The new MPR's need about 1125-1150 to be consistent but man they sure are awesome. The old MPR should perform fine at 1100 but they will get full expansion diameter at about 1150.

Took my AutoComp rounds to the local indoor range. Just an initial unscientific, observation type of test to see how the ejection pattern compared to the Rem GS 124 +p.
RMR 124g MPR @ 1.085. I'm guessing these are the newer MPRs since these were delivered this past Friday.
5.4 had a bit weaker ejection and the 5.8 had a bit stronger ejection. Sounds about right. When I got home to decap, the primers from the 5.8 rounds popped out of the fired cases with no effort at all. Way too easy. I tossed the brass.
Hopefully I can get to the outdoor range soon so I can set up the chrono. Until then, I'm sticking with the 5.4. I'll try a few 5.6s later.
