I'm thinking about adding another snub nose revolver to the collection, but which one?
I currently have a 442 and carry it most of the time. I also have a Taurus 415 41mag 2 1/2" for when I want more power.

I just want another option for range fun and carry.
I would like to stay below $500. Preferably 38/357, but did add one 44 special to the poll choices.

I selected the LCRx for selfish reasons. I would like to buy one eventually in the 3” barrel configuration. I have heard that the triggers can be hit or miss in regards to smoothness or pull, but I think that can be remedied. I also like the white line front sight.

S&W M640 or M649 are great snub nose revolvers. I have a special run M640 from 1976 that shoots better than I do.

With your 442 you've got carry covered for 38 special, so I chose the Bulldog for you. And because I'd like one myself :)
I'm with you, unclenunzie. I already have my 38 Special (and as far as that goes - 32 H&R) "snubby" guns covered, and I've been sort of hankering for a smallish 44 Special for a while now.:)

I chose the Taurus 605. With what you have an all-steel 357 would make sense. I've never had a problem with the 605s or 905s I've owned. And if you can check it over in person before purchase, I wouldn't hesitate to go that route. Decent triggers, and I prefer the hammer-mounted lock to the S&W lock.

But I would also consider a Ruger sp101 or S&W 60.

Have a s&w 637-2 deep cover that is really smooth & nice shooting. I've thought about a charter 44 special but am hesitant with the current ammo situation.

I'm with you about the ammo situation. It seems like you should buy ammo first and then guns that use that type of ammo

If you're in good shape for CC revolvers and don't have a larger-caliber revolver, the Charter Arms Bulldog is the obvious choice. It's also available in 40 caliber, and 45acp... and maybe 45 colt? I have a 44 and a 45.

If you're positive you have the best CC revolver ever, you may not have shot a nice LCR before.

My favorite snubby... or my easiest to shoot anyway, is an old 2" Model 10 (K frame) that was a LEO trade-in. I don't usually carry it due to its size and weight, but it's a sweet shooter.

Back in the late 70's snub nosed gun availability was a somewhat thing. Got a great deal on an Undercover for $5 less than what he'd paid for it new. That little gun has riden many miles with this old geezer. Got her a new barrel and a few newer internal parts. but she's still ready and able to deliver 5 deadly rounds right where they're needed as long as I do my part.

Course over the years, weVe added three other UC's one for my better half and one for my get home bag

I have the Charter Arms Undercover in .38 Special. It was my first snub nose, but it quickly became my EDC for the summer months. Accurate and easy to fire...and it actually feels better with +P ammo!

I carry it with the factory grips...but it cleans up nicely with some rosewood grips from Altamont Company!

I see .32 H&R ammo, on local shelves. I see no .38 Special or .357 Magnum. No .44 Special. The on-line ammo situation is bleak. I voted LCRx, because it can be had in .32 Fed Mag, so can chamber and fire .32 H&R, if I recall correctly, and, because my Ruger revolvers have performed well for me, though none are LCRx. (I had accumulated a sizable herd of SP101 revolvers, some time ago, so adding an LCRx has not been a priority.

I've had a bunch of snubs over the years. 2 442s a 642, 5 different Bulldogs, a couple Dick Specials, 3 SP101s.
I've settled on the LCR for carry as I liked it better than the 442 I had. I also have a m36 and a Colt DS2 just cause I'm a one of everything gun guy lol.
With your 442 I would go for a steel snub maybe a nice M60 to practice with.

My thoughts on your choices.

"$500 or less" and ".357" means Charter Arms or Taurus. Charters have a tendency to (in my experience) eat transfer bars. So, your option is Taurus.

If you can swing the extra money, get one of the Smiths. "Two is one, one is none."

Any of the j-frames (or equivalents, the T605 and the Charter Undercover and Mag Pug) will be easy to find stuff for. Everyone makes holsters, there are a bunch of options for speed loaders, that kind of thing. Not so much for the others.

The Taurus 605 is a j-frame clone. The 856 is going to be different enough to need a different holster. (If they were to ever make that in .357, especially the 3" version, it would be extraordinarilly popular.)

The Bulldog is fun. "Boomier" than a .38 snub. I just wish it were more rugged. And that Safariland made a speed loader for it.
