...are Remington and Winchester still producing ? At present I shoot only 22LR, all I see are Federal, CCi, and occasionally Aquila.

I was at my dentist's gun store today (Forreston, IL),....fresh supply of Win 5.56 to be had. Also saw common pistol calibers in the brands you described as well. No "New Stock" Federal to be seen except maybe in 9 mm.

(I know it sounds strange to casually use the phrase "My dentist's gun store" but the man I reference is a rare gentleman who is an equally accomplished and superlative character in both realms; anyone acquainted with him would be apt to agree!)

Yes Winchester is producing ammo. Remington ammo was bought by Vista Outdoors. It is my understanding they do not have the Remington plants up and running yet.

I do not believe that the plants were ever completely shut down. Over the last few months I have seen small amounts of Remington ammo available.

The last time I visited Academy (3 or so weeks ago) they had Remington Green and white box 125 gr JSP 357 mag available

I bought 2 boxes of Browning 45 acp about a week ago. Not sure who makes it.

You know of course that Remington went bankrupt and the court sold off the assets. The Remington brand name and ammunition line went to Vista Outdoors, Marlin went to Ruger and Roundhill Group(?) got the remaining assets. So, the answer is that the Remington ammunitions plants at best have been sputtering along in a transition period but are now coming on line full ahead.

Known domestic producers of 22 rimfire include Federal, CCI, Remington (Vista Outdoors), Winchester (Olin), Armscor, and probably others under other brand names. I am not sure if Sig is producing rimfire. Eley, Aguilla, Lapua, SK and others continue to be imported, and I am not sure about Russian lines such as Vostok. Some Armscor may be made offshore. Fiocchi also has domestic production facilities but I don't know if they make rimfire. All are making ammo as quick as possible but some are attempting to get new labor on line, as Federal had to lay off approx 300 workers due to market saturation a couple years ago, and Remington was down 300 workers or more due to cash issues. Prices are a strong incentive to maximize production, but a cyclical market, commodity prices, and quality assurance are among the many limiting factors.

I posted this a week or 2 ago in another thread, but I'll mention it again. My local Sportsman's Warehouse got a large ammo shipment in about 2 weeks ago. I got there as they opened and saw the "pile" before it all disappeared. A large portion of it (a little under half I'd say) was actually green box Remington ammo. It was stood out to me as it had been quite some time since I'd seen green (or any other color) remington boxes for sale. This is just an annecdote obviously, but hopefully it's a sign that Vista is ramping production back up at the formerly-Remington-owned ammo plants.

I've been checking federals website 20-30 times a dat for a few weeks.since a member here said it was fairly regularly for sale there if you caught it in the very small window. So far I have not found that to be the case.

Anecdotal only by my son travels the bigbox stores a couple of times per week..Cabela's, Bass Pro, Sportsman's Warehouse, Murdocs and has been pretty successful finding the stuff we shoot..22lr, 9mm, 556/223, 38Spec, even some .380..not all the time and not everywhere but pretty regularly..He got some 556 and 9mm Critical Defense yesterday at Cabela's
