I can't believe that... are there just not many around? Turkey season is a big deal here in AR.

We have more turkeys than you can shake a stick at in eastern OK. If there’s public land of any acreage, there’s turkeys there. I’m sure someone will come along and say I’m full of it. But I’m serious.

Edit: I used to have a bunch of pictures and videos on my phone I’d taken off all the turkeys I’ve seen. But my phone got filled up at Christmas as I was recording my girls opening their presents and I had to make a mad dash to delete a bunch of stuff. They were part of that stuff.

Turkey hunting is something I have never done and would like to start.
A few guys in my lease chase them and I'm planning to try to go with them soon.

Our lease has a lot of them. It's nothing to be deer hunting and have a dozen turkeys come in and eat your corn for a while.

The farm I hunt has a lot of turkeys in the fall and winter. They hit the cattle feeders pretty hard, but that doesn't guarantee that they will be there in April. Last year I played with one bird on the farm after seeing 2 or 3 flocks of 30 birds back in December and January. The same happened on a farm that I hunted in Missouri. The owner counted 70+ birds in his pasture at one time when the snow was on. I went up there 3 months later and heard 3 gobblers in 2 days and all of them were off of that 900 acre farm. A flock can cover several miles.

Every year i shoot about 5,000 rounds of centerfire ammo and a couple thousand rounds of .22. Don't hunt turkeys because we don't eat them: No one wants a turkey. Spend a lot of time shooting and trapping wild hogs. Will purchase a better predator caller and spend more time killing coyotes.
I'm with you on turkey meat...yuk! Nothing I like better than killing coyotes. They get a lot of rabbits and grouse, perhaps woodcock too.

Coyotes kill a lot of fawns too. i have not seen a fawn on our deer lease in two years: The place is overrun with coyotes. Some wild hogs get a taste for fawns too, they have good noses and can sniff out fawns. i've caught two large boars in the act of killing fawns.

In the mid 1970s studies showed coyotes were killing about 90 percent of fawns in southwestern OK. An extensive coyote trapping program was put in place.

Manage your deer hunting property.
Take a tomahawk or hand ax and cut the vines that grow on the trees. Cut them off at the ground.
Scout for mature timber to sell. The price is good right now. You might be surprised by learn what it is worth. I did a selective harvest on my timber.

Mark some trees for firewood and cut them down before the sap starts to run.

I know a guy who bought 20 acres last year and got enough money from logging to pay for it. Plus it opened it up enough to get some second growth in a year or two. Good browse.

Its my opinion that new growth, brushy woods hold more deer than park type timber.

Here's another pic of my timber sale:
Thats about $25k(est) in today's market.

Had to work yesterday, today my wife volunteered us to babysit our newest grandson, 2 months old. We also went out this morning to an indoor flea market, do when we got home I gathered rifles, targets ammo and bags, then headed out to shoot. My the time I arrived at the range started to set up, went to set target stands at proper distance, couldn't move them as they were stuck in 3 in of ice, I had to pack up and go home in order to go babysit. Just didn't have enough time to shoot. I'll try again later in the week.

I hot to the range today, finally, weather was high 50's with a fluctuating wind, there was also some mirage especially at longer distances, but I did get 2 of my .22 lr out at 50 yds with 2 different loads, rem thunderbolts and Federal blue box. Had to rezero the optic on my 64b, the group was left and low also had to adjust the focus ring.

I adjusted too high for the fed ammo and placed one in the bottom of the m 60 target.

My m60 did better with the rem ammo, quite a bit better, I do t know what the issue was but the fed ammo wouldn't function my Marlin, it had a failure to extract, a failure to eject and 8 failures to feed. It also didn't group well, turned my semiautomatic into a single shot. IMG_20210321_213404.jpg IMG_20210321_213530.jpg
Not my best day with either 22, but my first range trip of the new year.

I took out my 223 and 243 and finished my day shooting a 3 shot group with my 243 at 300 yds with a 1.25" spread, 23 out of 24 hits on 300 meter steel and 50 hits with my 223 at same steel plate after a 3 in group at 300 yds. Overall a decent day.

Well I spent my weekend doing a controlled burn on the back 40, this year it actually was controlled, unlike in the past. At no point were the neighbors in jeopardy and no FDs responded...

I also planted, staked, and fenced 9 trees; 5 Nutall Oaks, 3 Dolgo crab apples, and another Arkansas black apple tree. Those were potted trees, so a little bit of a PITA and the 3PT auger is positively my least favorite attachment to mount:cuss: I've got another 40+ seedlings to plant this spring complete with tubes and mats. 15 of these are Common Persimmon to augment my current stands and the rest are oaks.
