I picked this up a few weeks ago in Kalispell. Rossi 42LC w/ 16" barrel and a wide loop lever. Last week I took it for a test drive with some mild and a few will loads. Absolutely no hiccups in about 25 rounds. Today, a beautiful day at the range, and I loaded it up with 250 gr Hornady XTPs on top of 25 gr of H110. Put my target out to 25 yds and tried some standing offhand shots and I was pretty impressed.
Its been a long time since I have tried to actually shoot for accuracy with open sights and my aging eyes are not quite forgiving.
I have put off getting a Rossi for a few years now but you guys on THR have bee touting it for so long that I finally succumbed. Sure glad I did. This make 4 leverguns in 45LC in my collection but I have to say this is the one that I am gonna haul around in the mountains. Its just a kick in the a#@* to shoot. I don't know how to explain it better but it is just pure unadulterated fun! I never got that same feeling before when shooting rifles or handguns.
Things could be done to the action to smooth it out and I may get to that at some point. But once a round is chambered then all that beforehand doesn't matter. It loaded easily (9 rounds in the tube), cycled every round with no problems, gave acceptable accuracy IMHO, and ejected the empties as it should. As Doug Marcaida would say, "it will keel".
