Returning to normal.....slowly

Nephew is closer to a retail store that stocks reloading components than I am, and have had him on watch duty. He called yesterday to report store has some powder and primers. Powder at $33 per pound (said YES!) and primers at $155 per thousand (said NO).

But "available" to even be able make the choice is a new and refreshing development.

So nephew calls to tell me not only did they have powder, but all three kinds on my wish list. IMR 4350, IMR 4064 and one of the 4831's. Three pound limit and he got one of each. With that, we are set and out of the market for anything in the near future. Once loads are worked up, we will go back for volume for the long haul. And BTW, that is for 4 different calibers of hunting rifles.

For reference, about 90 days back, decision was made to get into reloading to keep all weapons viable and not dependent on factory ammo. Had some misc reloading stuff from years ago, but between that and a little creative shopping, managed to get all I needed in that amount of time for normal retail or less. Only thing I really went over on was some primers, but that wasn't too bad.

saw a sign that they had ammo in: 6mm CM, .338WM, .475Linebaugh, and .458WM

would send big, dangerous game, long range rifle ammo to N. Florida - where we haven't seen a elephant or rhinoceros since Ringling Bros. were in town and the average deer (all 150 pounds of 'em) is shot at less than a hundred yards. Now, I'm, not saying there's a conspiracy or plot or anything, just stupid decision-making and maybe

Lots of 6.5 CM hype (not saying it's bad just over hyped) never realized the 6mm version was right for elephant and rhino, but since the 6.5 is good for incoming ICBMs the 6 should do for Florida elephants and rhinos:rofl:

Here in Wisconsin, we can find powder, bullets, and brass. Primers are non-existent, and haven't seen any for close to a year. Ammo disappeared about 2 months ago. Hope this madness stops soon, I'm getting low on supplies. Was glad to hear Remington is up and running at full. The silence is unnerving, used to hearing gun play in my neck of the woods.

Shoot a couple chicken-killing dogs, neighbors tend to leave you alone.

Yep. Them knowing you have more ammo is not a bad thing.

I don’t have much of a dog problem since I have 7 myself. When a stray wanders in, it can get ugly quick, they are a pack animal after all.

I’m not worried currently but the way things are going, people are gonna be desperate soon. And me rattling off a couple 100 rounds, a couple times a week will imprint on somes mind.

I'm starting to see ammo on the shelves. Not piles mind you but something other than 350 legend. Bps and academy have some. Zero powder, what exactly is alliant doing....

Alliant is part of Vista outdoors, Hmmmm.

Made a round to some BM stores Thursday I saw a lot of ammo and some reloading stuff not what I'm looking for but did get 250 rounds of 10mm 27$ per 50. Most of the local shops I hit had rifle ammo, I picked up a H&R handy rifle in 44mag (impulse buy). Most of the reloading stuff I'm seeing is shotgun and pistol powder at the moment.

44 Mag CVA Hunter. Just playing with it, first time out. Using Missouri Bullets 240gr TCFP, 10.5gr HS-6.
50 yds - first shot up top, then adjust scope. That's a 2" red stick-on bull.

75 yds, same thing - first shot up top, then adjust scope.

I had Winchester and CCI primers on my Midway Notify Me list and I just looked at them and the price went from around $200 for 5,000 to $299 for 5,000 since I started the list. I just removed them from the notify me list. I'm not paying that even if they ever had them in stock. I can wait. I have a good stock now but just wanted to add a little to it. But at that price, no thanks.
