My gun buying has dropped to near zero for the past 15 months or so. I stopped going to gun shows due to the pandemic so not a source there. New guns through on line sources have dried up. Historically, I never have liked buying used guns on line anyway.

Besides, except for participating in my local club's skeet leagues, my shooting center fire cartridges has dropped to near zero as well. I hve plenty of components and ammunition, I just have elected to pursue other activities during the pandemic.

Yes. To a moderate extent, last December.

The common concern about buying guns no longer being produced, combined with most peoples' focus mostly on ammo avail. might partly explain how I won a pair of bids at decent prices.
> 3rd. Gen S&W 908 and 6904. The 908 might be their lightest variation, and the 6904 certainly is lighter than the 5906. And the attractive 6904 was an " o_O Israeli Turn In ". :what:

An older friend has a correctly-converted Saiga in 7.62x39 (too bad in plastic instead of wood) which I've twice used.
Having "plenty" of this ammo chambering, I would offer to buy it now.... if prices were at 2019 prices--- and then ask my wife for forgiveness.

No, I've been spending my cash on over priced reloading components to help feed my herd. I did add a nice Ruger Service Six DAO about two weeks ago I had watched since last fall.

increased. I overpaid for one rifle I'd been looking at for 3ish years - but, I wanted it and figured I should get it while it was available, and then while looking saw some inexpensive .22 pistols I'd thought about getting, and the prices not being jacked way up - I just went ahead and got them too.

Yes, the world has affected my purchases. I used to buy handguns that interested me.

Since Covid began, I have increased the firepower quotient- a Cetme C308 in 7.62x51/.308, a pair of ARs in .223/556, another in 7.62x39. And enough ammo to feed them; thankfully I did this before things went truly crazy. We're talking first half of 2020 for the ammo and most of the rifles, and I just put the 7.62x39 AR together for $500, plus cost of good mags. BCA complete upper, enhanced firing pin from Red X Arms, KG complete lower.

These are all rifles, I was a bit apprehensive on the pistol/brace issue. If I decide to and prices stay the same, I'll go with the same makers and put a smaller one together, haven't decided which caliber to go with.

No (without the exclamation point). My "gun buying" has remained the same during the "latest ammunition shortage." I bought a Ruger "American Rimfire" .22LR for my wife last fall, and I'm still hankering for a Weatherby .257 Weatherby Mag for myself - even though that's been put on hold.
However, my plan of buying a .257 Weatherby being put on hold has nothing to do with the "ammunition shortage" - I knew I was going to be loading for it anyway, and I have most of the components on hand already. It's simply that we have well (literally, water well) problems right now, and that's likely to cost us more than several of Weatherby rifles.
So, priorities. I'd rather have running water in the house than a new .257 Weatherby - I can get by just fine with my .308 Norma Mag this fall.;)

I bought more silencers last year as the price on a few high end models was up to $200 off the normal price point.
Everything seems to have gone back to normal now.

Why guy a gun when you can't buy ammo? Anybody home there?
I'm guessing you meant "buy a gun," when you typed "guy a gun." Nevertheless, if you had followed just a few of these "ammo shortage" threads on THR in the last year, you'd know that some of us have enough ammo on hand to feed every gun we own and more for the rest of our lives. And some of us handload and have enough components on hand to feed every gun we own and more for the rest of our lives.
Sorry you seem to have been caught short. I could probably help you out some, but I won't.;)

Sometimes, that's the best time to buy. You come across a nice deal on something considered relatively useless, and then speculate that the market will resolve that issue.

It depends on the purpose of buying and owning said firearm, I guess. My defensive needs honestly were met before Obama ever took office. I've added stuff recently that seemed prudent (the AR for example), but that's also another way of saying I decided I wanted another toy. I've had a 9mm pistol, a 12 gauge pump and an SKS for a couple decades now.

You may or may not know this, but the French had some neat pistols going into WW2. One model directly evolved into the Sig P210 later on, almost an exact copy- but the French used an obscure caliber. The pistols were basically useless as shooting instruments, even at the range, unless you figured out how to cut the brass right and make some 7.65 French Longue. I watched a few come and go on AuctionArms, for barely over $100, but never pulled the trigger on them. The S.A.C.M., I believe it's called. It was never worth anything, because nobody EVER made that ammo other than the French. If you were lucky, you could get some old ammo (all duds), and take some measurements, and guesstimate about what was required. We're not talking obscure, we're talking

I kick myself now, because of something I came across while hunting down another obscure caliber (9x23 Largo). There's a specialty ammo shop that I found for the Largo, with reasonable enough prices (at/under 60 cents a rd). I know they actually make ammo, because I received a partial shipment of an order, before their supplies of components ran out.
They make ammo in 7.65 French Longue for $26 a box, new brass. There's a lot of posted reviews, it runs those guns great. The last time I saw those guns, they were now running over $700-800.

**Not my gun, but I want it

Sorry, Skippy, but I got what I need for the calibers I have. Don't need your help at all. The reloading equipment is holding up just fine, thanks.

Past practice has been buying a new handgun every 3 years or so, last year I bought 3 and this year I’ll have bought 2 more but sold one.

So yes buying more but nothing to do with ammo shortage or stockpile but more to do about STIMULUS money.

I chose only when I come across a good deal.

I have actually picked up more accessories, upgrades, on hand spare parts, etc than guns, over the last year or so.

I have purchased more riles/Shotguns than Handguns, O/U, Single shots, along with a few Chiappa inserts, a couple T/C Black Powder Percussion Rifles (.45 Hawken and .50 New Englander), I have picked up one or two HGs also when I found a deal I liked.

I think I have bought maybe 3 maybe 4 guns sense the beginning of the WooFlue. They have all been fair deals and I managed to not overpay (much). I have done a lot of shopping and bidding on Gunbroker. But prices never allowed me to buy or be the wining bidder. I made up my mind that I was not going to panic buy anything if I could help myself and I have done pretty good.

a 586 with a 6" barrel for $550
a Taurus G3c for $279.
a Rem 870 Police trade in for $325 (I felt I over paid a bit on that one)
a older BushMaster AR Police Trade in for $550 ( felt I over paid a little on this one but I wanted the Older Bushmaster receiver)

I think that is it for 2020 up till today. But I am still looking for a deal if I can find one.

No, my last trip to my FFL was to pick up some that had been there as long as a year.

I have plenty of ammunition and components for others but I have to spend my own money so I buy when it has the most buying power. If the .gov were to send me other peoples money though, I might be tempted to waste some of it for the instant gratification of a new gun right now.

My buying has increased because of the reloading component shortage not the ammo shortage.
If I can't get the stuff to build my own I have to buy it outright to shoot.

I bought a ton more, mostly because I had nothing else to spend money on. Mesa Pawn gives me solid, almost at cost deals on their guns, and they have some pretty cool stuffs.

No, But. 73 years old. Owned, own, shot, refinished, repaired. Never had any unintentional discharge. None ever accident. Never ever been charged or even suspected of any crime. No. That's right. No. No Criminal record what so ever. Nothing. Nada. Not been without "firearms" since I was 15 years old. But this weekend I will have to go have some kid 1/4 my age. One tenth the experience tell me how to carry a firearm so I can get my CCW. Hate, greed, envy and a very large case of stupidity. America today.

No not really at all but if something I like comes along and the price is right I buy it. Several weeks ago I was visiting my local gun shop when a gentleman came in selling a really nice S&W Model 15-3 with original box. The shop bought it and within 5 min I bought it. I had bought one for my son-in-law as a Christmas gift about 3 years ago pictured below.

When this one came along I bought it. Awhile back I also bought this little S&W Model 10 2" snub nose. It just came along, not like I was looking for one. Actually I collect the Colt Series 70 guns but never say no to a good well priced gun.

The entire COVID Pandemic thing has had really no effect on my buying or shooting habits.
