Isn't it ironic that the arm brace that the gvt wants to make illegal is in fact the very thing that, to my mind, makes that a pistol as defined by Federal law?

18 U.S.C., § 921(A)(29) and 27 CFR § 478.11
The term “Pistol” means a weapon originally designed, made, and intended to fire a projectile (bullet) from one or more barrels when held in one hand, and having:
a chamber(s) as an integral part(s) of, or permanently aligned with, the bore(s);and a short stock designed to be gripped by one hand at an angle to and extending below the line of the bore(s).

I would argue that AR, AK47, Sig 556, TC Contender, Ruger Charger, etc. "pistols" without a brace are not intended to be fired with one hand. They can be, awkwardly, but so can a rifle or a shotgun.

I think that to comply with the letter of the law a brace should be required on some of those types; not prohibited.

We know the ATF and its rules are all wrong. Lots of handguns I shoot with TWO hands for many reasons. It follows that I can fire any number of rifles with one hand.

That's because it's a carbine in anything except the most technical legal sense.
Carbine is from the French word “carabin” meaning a mounted musketeer. A carbine is also called, “a horse pistol” in many languages and cultures, including the US, UK, German and Italian pre-war-1 cavalries.

Sorry, nope: "The carbine evolved as a means to combine the greater accuracy of the foot soldier's musket with the flexibility of horse soldier's pistols. The initial “carbines” were simply shorter versions of muskets, retaining their large-bore diameter but reducing the weight by shortening the barrels." A carbine is a short rifle. These guns avoid being a "short barreled rifle" as defined by the National Firearms Act of 1934, but that is the only sense in which they are not carbines. Which is what I said to start with.

Nice. Here's one of mine.

Look up the etymology of the word “carbine” then come back and apologize for using Wikipedia as a “source”. Anybody interested in firearms should know better than to quote Big Brother.
