So some time ago I grabbed a pound of this stuff. I heard that it was a good magnum handgun powder, but could never find it locally. Some came up at Midway a while back, along with a couple others I've been wanting to have a go with, so into the cart it went.
The guns I've been wanting to try it in are the SBH 44Mag, and the SRH 454, of course, putting together a few upper level 45 Colts for the latter.
Finished putting together the last of all that ammo for a Monday shoot around tonight. I gotta say, I have never, ever had a propellant meter as consistent as this stuff, and I've used a fair amount of 296 over the years. Thru my uniflow, I threw 25 in a row into the scale pan, that pointer stopped dead on the money every time. I usually get a touch of variance with every propellant, not this stuff.
It looks like dust. The case fills in all 3 cartridges were excellent, I hope this stuff performs as well as it throws.
It's gonna be a mostly lead show, Badmans 240 SWC in the 44, Badmans 255 SWC in the 45s, Cast Performance 260 WFNGC for the 454s.
Hopefully I can type after Monday afternoon, gotta feeling I'm gonna have some sore wrists, and be thankful I put some more TiteGroup 44 special together for the GP100 to finish the day with.
Have a great weekend everyone

I would like to try it but it can only find it for about $60 to $65 a pound after gouging, shipping and hazmat fees.
Don't need it that bad.
If I could find it for about $45 shipped I would get some.

Well I put a few down range on Memorial day, and I must say I'm encouraged by the results.
Especially in the 454. I worked with a Cast Performance 265 WFNGC over 27.5 and 28gr charges respectively with BR4 CCI. They didn't group too bad, im sure I can seriously improve on it going up the charge ladder. I had no data for this bullet/powder combo to start with, so I had to do a bit of homework comparing what 260-300 grain jacketed and cast I could find. 27.5 seemed like a reasonable amount and well within the lower end of the scale for those weights.
Recoil wasn't bad, well not as bad as my 296 loads for this gun. I think inching upwards towards 30 gr would be just fine in this Super Red. More play time, with the chrony, is in order
I ran the 44 Mag with my Badman 240 SWC over 20.5.
Another decent load, it did fairly well. 21.4 is Westerns maximum for this type of bullet, so a little tweaking up and ill see if I'm gonna make a change in the propellant I use for this cartridge. Looks like it's very possible.
Never got to the hot colt loads, I got that GP100 in hand and that was all she wrote. Those 4.5gr TiteGroup loads were a welcome thing after 40 big boys.
All in all, I wouldn't be at all worried about taking either of those deer hunting as is, although I have a feeling I haven't hit the spot on both cartridges yet.
I loaded a few more tonight of each......ill set up the chrony Sunday and see how we go there
