Most onboard know how hard it has been to locate pistol powders (at least here) for quite awhile now and I'd venture to say that some of us have had to switch to "what's available"......not that I'm completely out of anything but I'm refering mainly to my old stanbys like 2400, Unique, W231, HP38, W296 and H110.

Well Friday I received a tip from a fella I know at my LGS that they had just received a quanity of Hodgdons new CFE Pistol powder in both one and eight pound jugs and after looking at the data available on the Hodgdons web site it appeared that it can be used in my most reloadable handgun rounds and in the bullets I normally use........38 Spl., .357 Mag, 44 Spl., 44 Mag. and 45 ACP.

The old saying is, "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" so yesterday I went ahead and picked up nine pounds, one eight pound jug and a one pounder (to pour into later) for $195.05 OTD which comes to $21.67 per pound OTD.

Now that I've got nine pounds of it on hand I sure hope this stuff works well. :)

My LGS had a case of it on the shelves on Friday also. I looked at it but I didn't buy any, I don't know when I would get to use it.

I'll let someone else figure this stuff out.

It works well and I've loaded 9mm, 40 and 45 with it. Was the first powder I bought when I started reloading last year.

As far as its copper fouling elimination abilities....I can't speak to that.

CFE Pistol is now one of my favorites for .38 spl. under a 158 grain LSWC. Have also used it a lot and liked it in 9x19mm and .45 ACP.

I also took the plunge and bought an 8lb jug :) I have only used it for 9mm and .38 spl so far and plan on using it next time I have to load up more .45 acp. It also seems to meter pretty good on my progressive Lee PRO 1000.

CFE Pistol gets my vote! Also CFE223 has worked well for me.

Happy Loading!

I load mostly 125 gr. JSP and JHP bullets for .38 Spl and .357 Mag and yesterday I loaded up fifty .357's with a Sierra 125 gr. JSP over 7.4 grs. of the CFE Pistol powder.

The Hodgdon data (using a 10" barrel and XTP's) shows a min. of 6.9 grs. for 1340 fps and a max. of 8.0 grs. for 1480 fps.

I'll be shooting these through a stainless 4" barrel GP-100......now all I've got to do is find time to go to the range.
