Your Favorite .22

I have threatened to trade it for a threaded 10/22.
But every time I take it out it makes me love it.
Just right, just how it is.

I’ll get a 10/22 to hotrod, but I’ll still have this 597.:)

The 597 love reminded me that I have one chambered in .22 WMR in my safe. I haven't done much more than function-test it at the range. But you guys are tempting me to work my trigger finger on my precious supply of CCI Maxi-Mags... :D

I have a few Winchester Model 61's and for a close second a couple of Remington Model 12's that I really enjoy shooting.

My favorite would have to be my Winchester 69 that I first shot from my father's lap at age 5. I have a thumb hole Savage that is very accurate and a Savage anschutz that shoots tiny groups at 50 wards.

Not necessarily my favorites, but among my favorite memories are of a time long ago in the far off galaxy of jubilant boyhood I spent endless hours devouring the pages of this 1960 Shooters Bible. Among the pages of its endless wonders were two .22 rifles that captivated my attention. But priced at well over $100 each they were only the fantasies that a boy's dreams are made of. But time passes and sometimes fantasies come true.. 21A_3617 (2).JPG 21A_3618 (2).JPG 21A_3622 (2).JPG 77Y_2163 (4).JPG 77Y_2169 (4).JPG .

If we’re talking pistols, I’m going to need some bandwidth…;)

I had a Rem. pump just like yours and it was a great rifle, but like a lot of great guns I've owned, got the trading itch and it is gone. The thing I remember most about the rifle was how nicely it shot aerial targets, due to the great pointability. Dry-firing, the tinny sound was certainly a negative. I traded it for a Marlin 39A lever gun which was a very nice, very solid rifle, but it didn't point as well as the Rem. That rifle, after some really nice shooting, is also gone, but that's part of the firearms experience. I bought and experienced a lot of guns, but traded to experience others. Haven't bought as many, but also haven't sold/traded many recently either. I've entered the grandfather phase, where I've passed a few guns to grandkids and to the son who hunts a lot.

You mentioned threading 10-22 barrels and I thought of doing that, but decided to try using Locktite Red, Stud and Bearing Mount liquid on mine and it's worked wonderfully! It's also easy to remove with careful torch heat, but I haven't had to. My 10-22 with an aftermarket Locktited barrel has been a real tack-driver and has shot 10 consecutive 5-shot groups at 50 yards under 1/2" average. (I previously posted the target on this board.)

Since this is Rifle Country, I'll start with the rifles. A Ruger American Rimfire with the copper mica stock, and I had the barrel threaded. In the same pic, my Standard Issue 10/22. It's not my most accurate .22, but it has slain many a soup can over the years. It also has a threaded barrel, and both of these rifles are topped with Nikon scopes.

Next up, Ruger American Rimfire, Target Model. Not that I've done a bunch of precise measuring, but I'll call this my most accurate .22 rifle. It wears an Athlon scope. I would have put a Nikon on it, but Nikon had quit making scopes by the time I got it. Again, and unsurprisingly, a threaded barrel, but this time the Dead Air Mask is actually on the rifle.

But when I feel like shooting a .22 pistol, I have a 22/45 Lite.

CZ 452 American . Beautiful gun and won lots of turkey with it.

I'm pretty happy with my TOZ 78-01 it will easily shoot 5/8" groups @ 50 yrds with CCI blazer 22 lr.
Of course my other favorite is my 10/22 with the BX trigger group.
