Your Favorite .22

I'm torn between my 1990s vintage Winchester 9422 and my newer Browning BL-22. The Browning is a bit nicer .... but I'm sure not used to that short-throw lever. I'll never part with either.
I have a 39A and a BL22. Both are 50 years old and had 10’s of thousands of rounds through them. The Browning is my pick of the two but neither will leave me until the boys get them, which might not be too much longer. I’m getting old in my old age

I don,t think I have a favorite. I have a lot of old Marlin/Glenfield, Mossberg/Westernfield and other asst models. I just like the vintage styles and buy what looks interesting.. All wood and blueing. I often think of what things were like for the original owner and how it was used when they bought the gun new. Some are as far back as the 1930's. I look at them as a piece of history and art of old gun makers.

This is the "Rifle Country" forum so luckily I don't have pick any rimfire handguns. Got 7 long guns in 22 rimfire here and I can't decide on a favorite. That changes from week to week or at least every month. This past week I went to the range to check some 300 WSM handloads and the little .22 cal. Henry H-001 lever gun just had to accompany me because it hadn't been out yet this year. Had a blast with it. I feel that the CZ-455 is next in the rimfire rotation although that one has been out twice already this year ( Jan. & Feb.). Next time will be its 3rd time out this year so perhaps that makes it my current fave by default. It'll be nice to plink with when the temp is above freezing. IMG_1659.JPG

I have my dad's Remington Mod 34. It does have a peep sight and a leather sling. The Mod 34 NRA variant had a Lyman peep sight and a sling. He bought it in the 30's, but I have never noticed the stamp NRA that variant is supposed to have. I'll have to take a better look. I learned to shoot that using .22 shorts in our basement as a kid. My dad built a range in the old enclosed coal bin in the basement building a slanted steel back stop with a sand bed in front of it. My brother and I shot from one end of the basement into the enclosed old coal bin. That old Remington still works fine today.

Can’t believe I’m the only one loving the Marlin Mod 60. Bought it in 89 as my second firearm and have run many thousands of rounds through it. Hunted with it for a few years, and made money with it for many more. It would light a strike anywhere match at 35’ offhand consistently and never missed a squirrel or rabbit. It still sits behind the front door waiting for any tree rats, trash pandas, skunks etc. to be seen so it can do its thing.

I love all of them. The one I shoot the most at the moment is my most recent CZ 457 Varmint. Just received a Picatinny rail on Wednesday to put on it. Better scope bases I already had should improve the whole experience once installed (no more sliding forward of the scope). Still at around 3" with bulk ammo at 100 yards, approaching 1100 rounds. Will play with the adjustable trigger (haven't tried yet), it is too stiff for my taste, but crisp as it should. The action is just fabulous. I was very lucky last week, two of the five targets on the sheet showed one hole just in the middle of the bullseye, one was four shots the other three. I know it was pure luck because I shoot 10 shots groups :)

My CZ 455 Lux is a recent acquisition that I really, really like. I think it’s my favorite shooter.

I’m a sucker for full-stocked carbine-length rifles, so my stainless 10/22 International is my favorite eye candy rifle.

But I’m also loving my Ruger American .22 WMR in a Boyd’s laminated stock. This ones a keeper . 8F506001-DAFF-4FFE-86E0-03BCEB707541.jpeg

I know it’s been said a bunch of times before... but rimfire rifles are like potato chips, no one can have just one. :)

Stay safe.

The CZ bolt guns are benchrest rifles, not meant or used for offhand shooting.

More and more I leave it in the safe because I am doing more offhand work. I find it a lot of fun. My nylon 66 has been seeing plenty of range time lately.

My favorites
1) Winchester 52A with Vaver sights. With decent or better ammo it'll go to 250 yards on 6" steel.

2) Suhl Standard. It makes me look good.
And can polish even turd ammunition into usefulness.

Really? You feel that your 452 Trainer was built for the bench?

I have to disagree. Everything on the Trainer from the stock shape to the sights and the sight radius was built for offhand and walk around shooting. The balance of the gun is nice in the hands too.

Yup, I shoot both of mine offhand at siluetas .
Really?

Try one of the iron sighted models and see what you think. The factory CZ stock on the gun below sure wasn't developed for bench rest shooting.

I predict you will like that 9422.
