Anybody recognize this?

That sure looks like something that fell out of my tailgate handle years ago. Either that or the tension spring that sets the height of the head of my vacuum cleaner.
Bersaguy was right.

My cousin came by today to bring me some egg cartons. I fill them up with fresh hen eggs and send him some every now and then. Anyway, when he came by today I remembered that I ordered him a tailgate handle for his truck a while back, and I asked him how it was working. He said that it wasn’t working right, and would only unlatch on one side. I said “Wait here a minute”, and went to get the spring. I asked him if it looked like anything that might be missing from the assembly, and he said that it sure looked like it would fit. I’m going to say that there’s a 90%+ chance that it was loose inside the package, and fell out when I brought it inside the house. From there, it must have somehow migrated around until settling in my reloading room for me to find. We’ll find out in a couple days for sure, but I believe it’s the only explanation that fits.

I still think your wife put it in your reloading room to distract you.:)

I find this highly amusing.
I was holding out hope that the members here on THR would eventually figure out what this wire fit even if it wasn't gun related and low and behold we might have done just that. WELL DONE THR, WELL DONE!!!

I was going to suggest that you check any firearms, tools... that you've used in your reloading room in the past few days.

If any are missing a part, don't function correctly, this could be the part that fell off. Hopefully it goes to the tailgate and all the problems are solved.

Hahahaha
Truly amusing.

I ran across a couple of random springs at work yesterday and thought about this thread.

The only thing worse are the pin gremlins that leave mystery pins for me to find after I reassemble a gun following detail strip for end of season thorough clean.

The worse thing is spring faries. They can fly and grab springs out of midair.
They just hover about waiting for one to be launched............

It's a thingamagajigger made from a old wire coat hanger. I make them all the time. They can serve multiple purposes and come in very handy in a pinch.

A wire coat hanger or the wire handle from a fly swatter cut and formed into a tool is as good an answer as I can find as well.
