Anyone have anything to say (good or bad) about BCM’s barrels? I’m looking at their “enhanced lightweight” complete upper in particular.

i have a 20inch gov profile a3 bcm upper. it out shoots the match target colt and the colt 6720 i onced owed. none of the dpms or shorty bushmasters came close.
... the dedicated dcm match rifle wasn't significantly more accurate enough. no doubt which one i kept as time moved on. dc.

I have BCM uppers in several calibers. No complaints about any of them accuracy wise, however all but one are just iron sights and I haven’t put them in a solid rest so hard to know precisely. But I’d say that’s a ringing endorsement from dieselchief!

I sold a rifle with a BCM lightweight upper last year. It wasn't a target rifle, but a consistent 2 MOA seems like a good number to throw out. Also, the POI did not drift much with a hot barrel. It was a good shooter.

I've got one of the BCM hardchromed lightweight barrels with a regular Magpul handguard (not free floated) and it's a regular 1.25 to 1.5MOA shooter with decent ammo.

Plenty good enough for the shooting I do.

Just for yucks today, while shooting a 223 reloading ladder, I brought out a BCM side-charging 7.62X39 upper with 16" heavy barrel that I purchased recently and put it in a lead sled....first time I ever used my lead sled since purchasing so I hope I'm doing it right. Certainly, I discovered one of the problems with a Caldwell lead sled and an AR is that the hand grip interferes with the sled and you have to cant the rifle slightly. Now, mind you, it was PPU factory 123 grain ammo and I was using only pop-up iron sights, but I put those iron sights on a 60 yard target, held the rifle and sled down (sled weighted with a 25# bag of shot) and the 5 shot group was 1.7"; about 3.5 MOA at 100 yards equivalent, as good or better than the Saiga AK47 rifle it replaced. All for $279 and the cost of an ASC 7.62-AR15 mag. Now you've got me wondering what it will do with a scope and some decent reloaded ammo.

If you are looking to win target matches then there are better choices but the experience I have is that they are capable of hovering around an inch at 100 yards with match ammo.

Molon, who does a lot of accuracy testing, shot a 0.95" 10-shot group at 100 yards with his 14.5" BCM ELW barrel using a 52 grain SMK load.

I did a test a while back after people were claiming that BCM barrels were inaccurate. I have a ELW barrel on my main rifle. I shot the rifle against a Colt 6920, a FN 20 inch (iron sights), and a Ballistic Advantage barreled pistol. I cant remember the exact ammo used but it was a generic 55 grain ball loading. Most likely American Eagle or Geco.

One thing to note, the BCM rifle is using a Trijicon MRO in an absolute cowitness mount. This is not ideal as the MRO already isnt the greatest for precision shooting due to parallax issues and the lower mount doesnt help. After this test I switched to a higher mount which helped with group shooting a little. I still think Im going to get rid of my MRO though.

Overall Ive found my BCM ELW to be roughly a 2-3 MOA barrel with quality ball ammo (this wasnt the only test) and Id say it averages around 2.5 MOA. My Colts have been a little better, usually being able to shoot down around 1.5 MOA regularly and averaging just about 2 MOA. But the light weight of the BCM is what I wanted and 3 MOA or better is 100 percent acceptable for me in a fighting rifle.

This rifle (the back one obviously) is a bit more accurate. It's a BCM 16 inch SS410 upper with a Geissele Mk1 rail, a Nikon FX100 4-16 scope, and a Geissele SSA-E trigger. It averages about .75 MOA with match ammo and 1.75 MOA with ball ammo. I regularly shoot 55 grain ball on steel out to 800 yards. Match ammo obviously does better at range and my longest shot with it is right around 1100 yards with it if I remember correctly.

Here is a video I posted here a few months back shooting it at 1005 yards with IMI Razorcore 77 grain ammo. The video isnt the greatest quality as my phone holder doesnt fit around the eye piece on my spotter. Also the shots blow out the microphone for a bit so you cant hear the hits. The ones that you dont see splash are hits.

Thanks all! I went with a 14.5” mid length pinned upper elw, should be here tomorrow and it should serve well with my 1-6 viper. Assuming my 77g reloads work ok, I don’t plan on a detailed work up for this guy.
