I have almost zero problems or inconvenience carrying most any handgun up to 18 hours a day. In another thread, a post was made about the inconvenience of carrying everywhere (legally) and everyday. I didn’t realize some people had problems or pain from carrying so I thought I’d get some poll numbers to see how others felt.

I've carried pretty much all awake (but not working) hours for maybe 12 years now, and also had for a few years ending many more ago when I was a LEO. I've gotten accustomed to a compact 9mm pistol worn between the belt and pants (ITB-carry) using an IWB holster. At home, there are rare times that I might doff it and drop a smaller gun in a pocket, but I always have one or the other and, when I'm out and about, I always have both.

The only times I've found it less than comfortable is when trying it with a new gun and/or holster that feels different.

I can't say it's #1. Had to go with #2 because there's some inconvenience and irritation. Not any pain though.
Same. There is always some irritation, but like with my little side saddle work pouch that I keep side cutters and wire strippers in, you get used to it. I will say that when carrying in the pocket, a micro is pretty much no more bother than a wallet. My G43 however, does press into my body and probably the most problematic carry time for me is during church. I usually like to carry a 9mm during Sunday service and we end up rising in and out of our seats half a dozen times for hymns and stuff and the wooden church pews aren't exactly comfortable when you have a gun pressing into your back. That and I do get a lil paranoid about it being spotted and making someone uncomfortable.

Since they long ago invented a couple nice "pocket pistols" long ago its a nothing for me. Have a few guns I can drop in a pocket and literally forget they are there. Now carrying something like my favorite GM .45? Now that is not forget its there and often takes some real work to decide to keep with me all day.

Not very but I also don’t go to places where I must be disarmed to remain lawful, with much frequency.

G19 tucked in a lefthand Remora with extended shield carried in the right cargo pocket of my pants or shorts, and a Streamlight/spare mag in the left cargo pocket. It's not a quick presentation, but it's utterly unobtrusive and super easy to carry all day, every day.

I carry AIWB whenever not at work (loosing my job would be very inconvenient) and haven't had any issues with it while being active. This includes hunting, hiking, building the chicken coop, or cutting up trees after a storm. It does help I'm running with a small LCR and the shape of that thing just makes being physical a breeze. I have a AIWB holster on order that should be arriving today for my P07 so we shall see if that is as little of a hindrance. This was all made possible by 1) getting my back straightened out with a good chiropractor, 2) loosing a bit of extra weight, and 3) getting a micro adjustment belt like the racheting style of Kore belts.

I have similar requirements of myself to make carrying super easy. If I gain 10 pounds, carrying gets way more annoying and if my back has it’s rare day of being cranky, I’ll carry a slightly smaller gun. Luckily I’ve kept my weight under control and my back has been great. (Until tomorrow morning, because I just bragged about how great it’s been. :))

It's hardly what I'd call "painful." I carry OWB in a pancake style holster tucked behind my right hip, and I sometimes forget it's there.
However, "inconvenient" is another story. As I stated in that other thread, "Do you carry All The Time," I sometimes have to go places (the courthouse, the post office, or the social security office) where carrying a gun is illegal. I don't like having to go to those places, but I sometimes have to, and that's when "inconvenient" enters the picture - I have to take my gun off and lock it in the truck or risk arrest, jail, and the possibility of loosing my legal ability to carry a gun in the first place.
AND, it's not just a matter of leaving my gun home when I have to go to one of those places where carrying it is illegal. We live 30 miles from town (where those places are located)so for "convenience," when I have to go to the danged courthouse to argue over our property taxes, renew my driver's license, or whatever, I figure on running errands (going to the grocery store, drug store, hardware store, etc.) - all places where I can and do legally carry while I'm in town.
What I usually end up doing is making the places where I can't legally carry the first stop(s) on my list, and I don't even put on my gun until I leave there. Running errands in town is just a little less "inconvenient" for me if I make the place(s) I can't legally carry my first stop(s).;)

It has been activating sciatica lately, even with a small 9mm pistol. I couldn't even carry and walk today. I lasted about an hour and a half...now I'm paying for it.

So far I really like the poll results. An overwhelming majority don’t have any problems carrying for long periods. Newbies who are not sure about carrying regularly can see how easy it is for most of.

Not at all. OWB, pancake holster most always, 3-3:30. Typically carry a full-size semi-auto (SIG P-228/229/226/320 or 1911 of some stripe). However, in the spirit of complete honesty, I will cop to packing one of my SIG P-365s (standard and the XL) a lot more often lately... they're just so darn cool.

I think an important factor here is many seem to be carrying what works for their situation and not what someone else thinks is right regardless of situation.

The only problem I have, and it's really not a problem, is deciding what I'm going to wear and what handgun I should carry. Since it's shorts and short sleeves seven months of year here the majority of the time it's my Model 36 in a DeSantis Black Widow holster. Light jacket/hoodie and jeans and depending where I'm going may call for my .380 Shield EZ or Beretta Model 81 double stack. On the rare occasions it's cold enough for a heavy coat I'll carry one of those three. I have a new holster for my FN 5.7 so I might throw that in the mix.

I studied ergonomics for a while. Comfort is always the key, Things that are uncomfortable and carried on or about the body for any length of time may not be for long. We naturally tend to avoid uncomfortable clothes, tools, furniture ect. Worse we often do it unconsciously. If uncomfortable you may just take it off and/or fail to take it with you. Not good if a big old 1911 at a restaurant. Teaching/traveling with LEOs we would often find or remind one or two their handgun was still under classroom seat or in the back of the car or van. Better to have a comfortable item (that you may forget is on you) than one left at home or worse "elsewhere". BTW returning a forgotten firearm to an LEO requires tact and discretion.
