Probably going to be doing a lot of solo hunting this year and on the fence between a hawk crawler cart or a jet sled. I hunt anything from flat to hills. What do you guys prefer?

I'd get the cart for the reasons Troy mentions. The wheels are an advantage in more types of terrain and weather conditions. I like a hand cable drag for a few hundred yards since it is compact but you will really enjoy the cart if you have to haul the deer a ways.

I have had both and they both have their drawbacks. For me I find a drag harness that straps around your torso with a minimum of 6 ft to 8 ft of drag strap ( to keep it off your heels) works about the best. I was even able to manage it after my bout with covid Albeit slowly. Just one old hunters opinion.

In case of snow I just wrap the deer in a tarp and make it a sled.
Yeppers. If we've got snow, one of those cheap, plastic toy sleds (5 - 7 dollars at Walmart) works great. You just drill a few 1/4" holes around the edges (to run paracord through in order to lash the sled around the deer) and throw the sled in the back of your truck until you need it. Oh, and hook your "tow rope" to the deer - not the sled.
It's usually a one time use, but who cares?

I have both. I use the cart more for we seldom have snow during our deer seasons. The sled comes in handy for long pulls in the snow, especially if the snow is more than 10" deep. As Troy said, deer make good sleds on a light snow cover. My camp is at the foot of a rather steep 1/2 mile hill. I once got a downed deer to the top of the hill above the camp and rode it to the bottom like a toboggan. Stopped about 25' from the camp door. What a ride!

I agree. I had a triple bypass 5 years ago and used an Allen brand harness to drag out 2 deer 3 1/2 mos. after my surgery. It was only 350 yards one way but it was not very difficult. I gutted the 2 deer first.

The cart is fine if there is a developed trail or short weeds but shrubs, palmettos, and cypress knees interfere.

A deer can be used as a sled on a step hill, ask me how I know.
I killed a small 6pt about 1.5 miles in the Appalachian mountains shortly after recovering from a torn MCL the previous spring. I told my buddy I’m throwing this thing down the hill and going to slide down on my rear end. I will never come back to this hell hole of vertical cliffs, honey suckle, rocks, red clay mud and saplings everywhere. Never been back either after a 4hr drag.

Bucks are a double edged sword, they have built in handle bars, but hurts much more when you wipeout lol.

I drove 3hrs there alone and planned on hunting/camping alone because the 2-3 guys going backed out the night before and I had already purchased food and supplies and took a week of vacation. I met two guys at the trail head and we walked in together in the dark. One guy then says where’s your orange. I was in such a hurry I left my vest on the hood of my truck. Trying to get back up the mountain before sun up I tried going down the hill. Well I slipped and rode/flipped down the hill about 50yards hitting some saplings and rocks. I packed up camp and drove back home.

Wish I could say I didn't have days like that lol.

on year I shot a nice buck, 11 point and almost a 200lb doe, this was on the back side of the farm just before the swamp. Two big ridges great for hunting because you could see 300 yards each side as deer came out of the swamp. To steep for car or trucks, even very Sketchy on a good atv. Took me a good hour to drag the buck to the top, went down to get the doe. Just about to the top and the shale on the hill have way and both deer went down the hill. I was a little mad.
