Yeppers. If we've got snow, one of those cheap, plastic toy sleds (5 - 7 dollars at Walmart) works great. You just drill a few 1/4" holes around the edges (to run paracord through in order to lash the sled around the deer) and throw the sled in the back of your truck until you need it. Oh, and hook your "tow rope" to the deer - not the sled.In case of snow I just wrap the deer in a tarp and make it a sled.
A deer can be used as a sled on a step hill, ask me how I know.
It's probably faster and safer then walking on a step hill, I probably hit 10 mph that day lol.LOL...do tell!
My son did that once, he had quit a ride for about 800 feet until it came to the creek. He was lucky the creek was only 50 yards from the truck. I laughed so hard I almost wet myself.A deer can be used as a sled on a step hill, ask me how I know.
I have had both and they both have their drawbacks. For me I find a drag harness that straps around your torso with a minimum of 6 ft to 8 ft of drag strap ( to keep it off your heels) works about the best. I was even able to manage it after my bout with covid Albeit slowly. Just one old hunters opinion.
Not all of us are Fortunate to have small deer lol.I throw them over my shoulder and walk them out two at a time.
I killed a small 6pt about 1.5 miles in the Appalachian mountains shortly after recovering from a torn MCL the previous spring. I told my buddy I’m throwing this thing down the hill and going to slide down on my rear end. I will never come back to this hell hole of vertical cliffs, honey suckle, rocks, red clay mud and saplings everywhere. Never been back either after a 4hr drag.A deer can be used as a sled on a step hill, ask me how I know.
Bucks are a double edged sword, they have built in handle bars, but hurts much more when you wipeout lol.I killed a small 6pt about 1.5 miles in the Appalachian mountains shortly after recovering from a torn MCL the previous spring. I drove 3hrs there alone and planned on hunting/camping alone because the 2-3 guys going backed out the night before and I had already purchased food and supplies and took a week of vacation. I met two guys at the trail head and we walked in together in the dark. One guy then says where’s your orange. I was in such a hurry I left my vest on the hood of my truck. Trying to get back up the mountain before sun up I tried going down the hill. Well I slipped and rode/flipped down the hill about 50yards hitting some saplings and rocks. I packed up camp and drove back home.Bucks are a double edged sword, they have built in handle bars, but hurts much more when you wipeout lol.
