We regret the closure of our biggest competitor and resolve to fully supply their niche as soon as possible.
It looks like shooting BP will become a distinctly European enterprise again. Hopefully they modify the weak Goex formula to be more suitable for small arms.
Funny as that’s what I thought were Schuetzen to reopen Goex. With their name on it per se they may well make a higher quality Goex and improve Olde Eynsford a little.
As I recall, after the last fire at the DuPont plant, they repaired it with the intention of filling current government contracts and then shutting down black powder manufacture as too hazardous. But Gearhart and Owens bought it out and kept it in operation as GOEX. Then Hodgdon bought up GOEX. Now the Hodgdons have concluded BP is scary and will get out of the business. Maybe somebody will bail out American powder production yet again.
question: It's my understanding that GOEX was the primary mfg of military powders for artillery shells, etc.
does this mean they're not seeing the need for BP for munitions? No way they would close if they had a fat military/gov contract, right?
Perhaps that’s the core reason for the shutdown.A good friend who works in the "military/industrial complex" tells me the military stopped using black powder in artillery ammo a long time ago.

Sounded like speculation to me. I read it as well. He did not go on record as having any source.I've read on another forum ( The Muzzleloading Forum) that Dupont is going to buy it, again. Don't know if that's true or not but sure do hope so.

Someone posted this on the Muzzleloading Forum and it's getting spread around but both this and the Dupont thing are just unfounded rumors at this point.Wano/Sheutzen has expressed an interest in buying...

Ya, I've seen where Sheutzen acknowledged the Goex plant closing and promised to help get more powder into the hands of shooters, but I haven't seen anything even close to them publicly expressing an interest in buying the plant.
Anybody who thinks for one minute that Goex/Hogdon cares one bit about us who shoot black powder is delusional.
Recently Hogdon showed their true colors to their employees with an internal HR memo mandating vaccines or get fired. It went public and Hogdon HR immediately released a statement completely different, in short, Hogdon HR lied to head off a potential firestorm in their customer base. Think they care about you? It's all about you spending your money with them. Hogdon/Goex can pound sand.
Possibly not more "ethical", however Schuetzen has a very good safety record compared to the DuPont, GOEX/Hodgdon safety record, which is dismal in comparison. Maybe what they're NOT telling us is that their liability insurance was canceled as of Jan. 1st?You know of a more ethical powder distributor?
Distributor? Grafs, Buffalo Arms, powder valley. I personally shoot mostly Swiss. I do have some OE I was playing with but Swiss is the best suited for my purposes. You know of a more ethical powder distributor?
i've never used swiss is it stronger or do i just load it the same as i did with goex? plus where can i get swiss now??
