What were 2019 ammo prices?

2019 9mm prices were around $9-11 bucks a box.

Blazer was always the cheapest to get.

270 Winchester 130/150gr soft point Federal and Remington ammo was about $17 a box at Wally World in summer 2020!!

45ACP was $12.99 per 50 at SGammo.

9mm was easily $8.99 at SG and Academy.

Winchester NATO 9mm was $169 per case! I should have bought 10 cases! Bought only one.

Just found a receipt from Academy on Black Friday 2019. 200 rounds of 40S&W for $44.99. That’s 23 cents per round, before the rebate. IIRC, after rebate, they were 16 cents per round.

While obozo was in office I bought American eagle 5.56 @ $299, per 1K and 9mm as low as $189 per 1K
5.7x28 @ $21.95 /50
380 @ $249. per 1K
needless to say, I purchased all I could afford for both his terms....

From what I actually saw in real life, pre-covid, but after the midterm elections, .223 steelcase, and 7.62x39 steelcase were around $120/500 before shipping.

Brass case .223 around $190/500 for lower end stuff.
9mm about $13/50 in stores, .45, 38 spl, .380, and .357 were in the $22-26/50 area.

I did see some specials with .223 Wolf/Tula for $200/1000 with free shipping, and did buy 500 rounds of Tula .308 for $151 with free shipping.

The farther we get from 2019, the cheaper people will remember. I would want to see receipts for any retail prices much below the above, excluding rare sales.

The big thing that was cheap was AR's. I DID buy a good quality $300 AR kit from PSA. After mag/sights/lower/kit/transfer/taxes, it came in under $400.
Also got a good, working, reliable PA-10 gen 3 new for $670 including taxes and transfer.

I also bought gas for $1.60/gallon in Waterville, Wa that year.

I would say that $9.99 - 11.99 was typical for brass case 9mm 115 gr FMJ range ammo. Winchester 9mm NATO 124 gr FMJ was usually a bit more at $13.99 to 14.99 (my preferred load).

At Walmart, "normal" hunting JSP (.270/.30-30/.308/.30-06) was $15.99 to $18.99.

This is fairly close to what I'd see for 9mm brass in 50 count boxes (or equivalent $ in 100-250 bulk packs)

$10 being quarterly sale prices
$11 being weekly or monthly sale prices
$12 being non sale price
$12.50 was a 'sheesh, thats kinda high' price

While I'm no fan of the Walton Clan or their stores, I gotta admit they're about the only retailers that haven't gouged the public on ammo prices.

at $20 a box for 9mm now it's right on par with expectations. I seem to remember at least 3 separate occasions where it was announced ammo related commodities were going up by at least 20-30% each time. pretty close to double the price when you add it all up.

i just hope we've peaked and are stabilizing now. Starting to see ammo actually stay on the shelves, even increasing in stock in some cases.

Got some ammo left over from back then,,,, wow what a difference in price.
I only use factory ammo to break in new firearms & make sure there isn't a
defect with it.
OK: = 45/70 Hornady back in 2019 was $35 for 20 NOW it is $62
357 mag Rem. JSP was $29 for 50 // NOW it is $60 > this one is nuts
I reload and, way ahead so all is well, for now.

My reloading cost for 9mm w/plated bullets was 11 cents per round.

Now: 21 cents per round.

Better than the 37 cents for loaded 9mm but it still stings. This is my first ammo shortage/panic so I wasn't stacked as deep as I could have been. Now I truly understand how this game is played.

In the summer of 2019 I bought a brick (500 rnds) of Hornady 17HMR 17gr V-Max at Murdoch's in Livingston, Montana for $89.95 with no tax. Shopping on GunBroker yesterday I found the same ammo for $365. I don't know anyone foolish enough to pay that much, but there it is. I have paid as much as $20 per 50 in preparation for a prairie dog hunt. Supply, demand, and necessity can be cruel to the wallet.

I have an email from SGAmmo on 1/3/20 with steel cased Tulaammo 9mm at $123 for 1,000 rounds. That's $6.15 a box!
Brass 9mm was around $160 per 1,000.
Brass 45 ACP was $250 per 1,000.
500 rounds of PPV M1 Garand Ammo was $300.
500 rounds of PPV .308 was $240
1,000 rounds of .300 Blackout was under $500.
500 rounds of CCI Standard Velocity was $22.
1,000 Steel cased 7.62x39 or .223 was around $180.
Add $15 to $20 for shipping for any of the quoted prices.

Ah the good ole days! Two years ago just as well a 100 years.

Back then the retailers were having trouble moving anything. Around Black Friday 2019 you could get 250 round "Black Pack" of Federal 115 grain for $43 and get a $25 rebate when you buy 2. 1,100 rounds of Federal .22 ammo was on sale for $41 and qualified for the $25 rebate also. I remember the ammo being available for a while after Black Friday because nobody was buying. The rebate was limited to $100, which I maxed out.

I haven't purchased much ammo since summer last year, though did buy extra guns and optics as items were clearance priced. Prior to that I usually bought a case or two of something every month or so depending on what we were shooting (rifle, trap, handguns). There were plenty of inexpensive bulk ammo deals around from 2017 up until maybe March/April 2020. Obviously the lowest cost was anything loaded in Russian steel followed by brass NATO rounds like 9mm and 5.56 at about 50-100% higher costs. When you looked at most any other non-blaster grade ammo it wasn't near as cheap as many people might otherwise think. Yes prices went way high this year and have been slow to come back from orbit. Give it time for things to settle down and supplies get back to normal. Maybe be a couple years with the disruption we know is coming with the eventual loss of Russian ammo. It will find a new equilibrium.

Remington UMC 130gr FMJ 38spl 250 packs-$64, Perfecta 50rnds158gr FMJ 38spl-$14, Perfecta 50rnd158gr FMJ 357mag-$16/ Federal Champion 9mm 115gr FMJ 200 pack $34, Remington 250 pack 115gr 9mm -$37. These were regular prices, rollback pricing less. All at local Wal-Mart who literally gave it away before their closeout of handgun ammo. I'm not a fan of Wal-Mart but it's across the road from my local range and the price was cheap. Glad I hoarded it during closeout & still have several thousand rounds and enough brass to keep me reloading the rest of my life.

I was able to reload since the late 60's but sometimes the cost was higher than factory. Still when things were plenitful and realitively inexpensive I took the time to work up loads and stock up on all things reloading. Can't remember exactly when but in the early 80's I restarted reloading 9MM when a box of Blazer Brass went above $3.25 each at WM. After that I just went by to look for deals on rimfire and chuckled at the centerfire prices everywhere.

I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. We were visiting the larger of cities near us (actually 90 miles from home) and we happened upon a Sportsman's Warehouse that had a promotion going on 9mm @ $11.99 per box of 50. 5 box limit so the wife and I got our allotment. Reminiscent of pre-covid pricing.

I remember buying 100 rounds of 9mm at Wal Mart for sub $20 & 20 round boxes of 223/5.56 were $8 or so

Nah, you could get the Wolf/Tula steel case 9mm for $6.50-$7 a box of 50 in case lots. I've still got ~7000 rounds left from when I restocked back then.
