Thanks for the welcome - It’s a 2004 Stewart & Stephenson LMTV with a lot of work done to make highway / trip friendly. It’s been a great outpost for weeks at a time. Cheers, and happy Holiday.

New guy from IL. Weird situation. Got a felony when I was 17 and had my gun rights taken from me as a result. (Nothing I'm proud of but I don't hide from it either. Charge was Burglary for stealing a car stereo.) Got used to the idea of never owning a firearm again, although I did come from a "gun family" and had always been around firearms. Got into custom/high end production knives instead and have been collecting/using them for the past 30+ years. Then the pandemic happened and I saw people fighting over toilet paper and figured right now would be a good time to look into getting my gun rights back. Started with a lawyer a year-ish ago and won my case early last month. Got my IL FOID card reinstated and that also cleared me Federally to buy/possess firearms again. Been expensive as hell so far. :) Going to concealed carry classes this coming weekend and will start that long process as soon as I'm done. Been to the range a couple of times so far and really digging shooting again..

Welcome, g3133m. It sounds like your life is on a good track once again, and I am sure that took hard work and dedication. Congrats on cleaning up old messes and learning from mistakes. You may enjoy the non-firearms weapons section as well as other sections of interest. Please have a look at the sticky notes at the head of each section you visit, and run through the THR primer in the general gun discussions section. I hope you will enjoy your time here.

Howdy, I stumbled across this forum looking for tech info specific to an issue with a Churchill 20ga semi, and got sucked into reading. Not so great that I lost a whole morning that I should've spent firewooding, but in such, think I found a good go to for anything gun related. Thanks for allowing me to join.

Welcome, Longhaired Redneck! We are glad you found us and hope we will continue to be a good resource for you. As you have noted, there is a great deal of experience and wisdom here, and we would love to add yours to the mix. We try to keep things on an even keel here, and if you will check out the THR primer in the general gun discussions section you will be good to go.

Hello from montana
New to the sight but definitely not new to firearms shooting ,reloading or hunting been a passion for 40+ yrs i shoot everything from 22LR to 458 Lott with my favorite being the 280 ai , glad to be here

Gooseman69, I think you will be right at home here. There are many of us who have seen many seasons come and go, but we are also hearing from people who are new to these sports, looking for information that they didn't get from the setting in which they grew up. Anyway, thanks in advance for joining up, adding your experience to our knowledge base, and being kind and patient. That's what makes us different from many sites on the web. Enjoy!

I read and posted a lot on The High Road many years ago, but my account was inactive for so long that my email wasn't even recognized any more. I found an article here, on the Ruger New Vaquero in 44 Magnum, which I got at Smoky Mountain Guns and Ammo back in February or thereabouts, and I decided to join again. I doubt I'll hang out here much, but I'm lousy at predicting the future. Anyway, I'm here now. My profile photo is from a 2004 photo of my Marlin 1894P on the top and 444P on the bottom. The 444, I sold before leaving Vermont in February. The 44 mag I still have. Both are ported, which Marlin doesn't make any more.

Well Marlin is now Ruger, so they may figure differently. More likely to thread muzzles so you can fit the implement of your choice, although that will still cause wailing and gnashing of teeth :D. Anyway, thank you for your for the introduction, glad you re-upped, and hope you enjoy yourself here.

New here, from Salt Lake City, only own 2 firearms ATM, Wather PPQ SC in 9mm for carry, HK 416 22LR 8" for fun at the range, joining to get info on a CQB SBR (legally "Pistol")

New members are welcome, Gypsy Dragon, but most will survey the landscape before diving in. That way you have a chance to review the THR primer and get a feel for the tone and culture of the community. Free form questions that toss all sorts of options out there make you sound like a mall ninja and you may not be taken seriously. I do not mean to disparage, but you are coming on pretty strong for someone with a few hours tenure. I hope you will enjoy your time here but at a more deliberate pace.

Hello all.

new to the forums, but not new to firearms or shooting.

background: I grew up in a small town in PA and moved to OH for college back in the early 1990’s.
Here, I met a friend and he was very much pro-second amendment. He sold me my first gun. All
I could afford at the time, being a college student, was a a Hi-Point C9. As they say, it was better than nothing. For years, I practiced with it and it was reliable and accurate enough for its intended purpose.
I was lucky enough to have been able to save up some money and by 1994, got a great deal on a new Charles Daly 1911 full size.
It’s been quite the journey ever since.

got another CD 1911 commander for carry, some 22LR pistol/rifle for cheap plinking. Liking the Browning design, I also jumped into the hi-power for a minute with a FEG clone and a curt wickman trigger job.
Had a short affair with a Ruger GP100, but realized that revolvers were not really for me.
When I got my first real job out of college, I lusted after the H&K USP 45 and got one.
Thinking I had all I wanted in the pistol category, I turned to long rifles and got an AK-47 and an FN FAL.

Stuck with those for many years. Here recently, realized that I had a lot of stuff in the gun safe and I was just not shooting it or had no place close enough to shoot it.
So did some trades and got myself into a Beretta 92X, a Sig Sauer P365 for carry and a police trade in Sig Sauer P226 in 40SW.

Loving the choices I’ve made here recently and have had them to the range a few times.

Have had some training, but always looking for more. I think 2022 may be the year I step it up some more in that area. Can never be too trained or too prepared!!

looking forward to conversing and community here.

Hello, I joined this forum just a couple of weeks ago. I am 74 (In march). I am a retired US Army vet with too much free time on my hands. So now I dedicate a portion of everday to see what trouble I can get into and how much money I can spend on guns without my wife taking my credit card away again! I have found that I can get away with a lot more being older than when I was young. A good example of this is when I moved here in Mountain Home Arkansas, I told one realtor I my birthday was in April and when I bought my hunting land here I told another realtor my birthday was in May. So now I get a cake from my wife in Mar. another comes in Apr. and another in May. Been working fine these last three years. I want to give fair warning that I will LIE a lot about how big any fish I caught was, How many points my last buck I shot was. (You should just assume it was really just a doe) How far that trophy buck was from me when I shot it. It will be a waste of your time to call BS me because I can just blame my BS on a faulty memory and old age. Then continue making up more BS...This will be my last and final warning to anyone reading my post. For now on I will swear everything I post here is gospel true and all events I make up has actually happened.

Welcome to gryphon1911 and to Mogas. Gryphon1911, thank you for the history. Many of us would probably have something similar, although every route changes and our interests ebb and flow. Mogas, you sound like the cool uncle I never had (although you only have 4 years on me). A sense of humor and humility gets you a long ways with fellow humans, and you both sound like good company with an extra dollop of wisdom. I hope you will enjoy your time with us, continue to be patient, and learn along with the rest of us. Check out the THR primer in general gun discussions and don't be afraid to ask questions. We are glad you found us.

Hello and a Merry Christmas to all. I’d like to say thank you for letting me join your forum.
Been a lurker here about a year. I’ve been into firearms sense I was a little kid. My interests lay in most anything that shoots. Air guns, muzzleloaders, military surplus, hunting rifles, tactical weapons.
I’m also self employed and working my way into retirement slowly, so there will be times when I’m not here and times when I don’t leave.
Once again, I’d like to say thank you and hope you all have a safe and Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas and welcome to hooisershooter. Thank you for checking in and telling us a bit about your background and interests. As you have likely observed, we are a community united by an interest in guns, distinguished by generally civil and respectful means of sharing knowledge and experience. Many of us have reached antique status, so new members help to keep us from losing touch with reality! I hope you will enjoy your time with us.

Hi from NZ (South Island westcoast), thank you for allowing me to join, I've been shooting since I was 4, first gun fired 9mm shot rook gun now I mainly hunt the tops after Thar using custom built rifles (338Lm 6.5x284)keep up trigger time when wet! with a 22lr anschutz 54 running boar and Bennli kite 177 target pistol, I do all my own reloading, I'm pretty much into anything shooting and hunting related, again thank you for allowing me to join.

Welcome, Machiavelli! We do enjoy connections with people who have vastly different circumstances than we, but who share our enjoyment of the shooting sports. We hope you will enjoy your time with us and we look forward to hearing about your experiences on the other side of the world. Season's greetings and thank you for checking in!

Hey there! I'm a new member to this forum, but I have found more answers to gun related questions here while doing web searches that any other place I've found. I want to thank whoever is responsible for excepting my application here and a consider it a privilege!

A little bit about my interest...I have always been interested in civilian versions of almost every weapon the US military has ever used, at least since the introduction of the Colt model 1911. My love for military arms extends out to the introduction of the Beretta M9 introduced in 1985. I am still interested in military weaponry that has been introduced since the M9, but on a much lesser level. A good example would be the fact that I am impressed by the SAW, but if had the opportunity to own10 SAW's or 1 M-60, I'd pick the 1 M-60 over the 10 SAW's any day of the week.
My favorite class of firearm is a pistol, and if I could only own 1 pistol, it would be a model 29 Smith an Wesson .44 magnum over any semi-auto you could name.
I have a better appreciation of the American made pistols, rifles and shotguns of the 70's and 80's more so than I do anything imported.
I've always had intentions of joining this forum, but I never took the plunge until I recently took an interest in building an AR-10 and I thought to myself, "Who better to answer my questions along the way than these guys?" so that's the straw that broke the camel's back in making my decision to join. Thank you again for accepting me!!!
P.S. Speaking of building an AR-10, what category is best suited for me to ask questions about the parts I choose to build it with? Thanks again!!!

Welcome to the group, gunnut08! We are glad you found us, and hope we can make your time here worthwhile. Please check out the THR primer in the general gun discussion section, along with the notes at the top of sections you visit (denoted by stickpin figures at right). If you are seeking AR-10 knowledge, the rifle country section might be a good place to start. We assume you are also aware of ar15.com and the various Brownell's videos. Inquiry should send you in the right direction and perhaps warn of potential pitfalls. Please remember to be kind, and good luck with your project.

Hello everyone, just another new guy here. Have been scrolling the pages of the high road for many years, finally figured I should join up.

I have been shooting for a long time, hunting even longer. I started reloading about 20 years ago and casting about 10 years ago. I have learned a lot over the years but there’s always more questions than answers.

I’m from south Florida currently, originally from southern Wisconsin. I’m glad to be here and hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season
