I have a 6.5 Creedmoor I would like to reload for. The only powder I have managed to get my hands on so far is Hodgdons BLC-2. The bullets I have are Hornady Match 140g.

I have checked Hodgdons reloading data center on their website and can see that they have load data for BLC-2 for 130g bullets, but not 140g (see pictures)

Why is this, I shoot 150g bullets through my 308 with BLC-2.

I just want to shoot the rifle. I have had it 2 years and have only put 2 boxes through it and have struggled to buy ammo for it. Is there anyway I could load BLC-2 to shoot 140g safely with a degree of accuracy out to 200y?

Any advice appreciated. I understand that there will be more suited powders out there but I am just trying to make do with what I have right now.

Thank you

The darling of the 6.5CM crowd is slower powders... slower, even, than IMR4064. The heavier the bullet, the slower the powder, or so it seems... BUT... you can't make a comparison by bullet weight alone, the bore diameter has something to do with it as well. BL-C(2) is a faster powder by comparison, too fast for the 6.5 heavies.

Where IMR4064 would be a slow powder in the .308 with a 150grn bullet, it is too fast for a 6.5mm 140grn bullet.

Quickload may help here, if someone could run the data.

I would need more specifics... At 30grn, the pressure is quite low. Again, these are generalizations... the OP is welcome to PM me with specifics.

Edited my post to change my data. QuickLoad workup did not exactly mirror the published data I've found, and was off by a considerable margin, so in the interest of safety, I have removed it.

I know it’s not the most ideal powder but I have had decent results with IMR4895. Getting 2600ish fps. Keeps me shooting for now

Reed,
I can hook you up with Varget, H4350, Reloder 15 or Win 748. All are listed in the Hornady manual for the 6.5CM 140gn. I've had my best results with RL15 and have a good supply of it. Let me know and I'll bring any of the four to the range the next time you're going.

Just got back from a Midway run. One of the powders I picked up was a pound of H4350. Didn't last long, but things are shaking loose so keep checking back often. They even had some Green Dot and Reloader 15 yesterday. Both Alliant powders I've not seen in past year.

Past week I picked up 4 different shotgun powders along with the H4350. Plus shotgun primers. Plus a bunch of wads. If there is a will, there is now a way.

BTW, the 6.5 Cr is one of the guns I'm loading for and for same reason. Gun went well over a year with no factory ammo available for it. It is running hot now.

Thanks for the response Charlie98. I will hold out until I get some more appropriate powders.

Keep an eye on Powder Valley's website for Winchester sta-ball 6.5. I got 3 pounds last week. It's one of the few slower powders somewhat available for the creedmoors.

One of the powders popping up in my areas is shooters world, and they are cheaper than the rest. A bottle of sw4350 might be worth your time if you see it. Also ramshot hunter, there is a dozen bottles at avery right now.
