I’ve noticed more and more of that behavior lately. Quality of employees seems to be dropping in many services level jobs.

It took about 30 minutes to buy the gun and I was out the door.
My Grandson loves looking at all the taxidermy and the aquarium.
As long as I go in with the mindset that it's a clothing and camping store that happens to sell guns and hunting stuff. I'm usually not disappointed.
Oh and to stay on topic. I feel pretty much the same way about Sportsman's Warehouse.

I like the Dundee store too. We stop by when we're in the area. I don't dislike Cabela's/Bass Pro, but I do miss some of the much higher quality stuff that has disappeared since the merger, like the Meindl boots. But I'm still very happy to have a store locally.

I wish they would build one here in north Dallas. We got a Scheels last year, but I can't afford to even walk into that place, not that I could make it to the door anyway... I would have to wait in line behind all the man-buns and Karens.

That's quite insulting to our folks around here. Please don't paint with the broad brush. This is most certainly not the case at any of the three Sportsman's Warehouse stores near me. The guys and gals at the gun counters are typically very friendly, more than helpful and definitely don't engage in that type of behavior up here.

I usually do my resaerch in the local shops, but almost always find it cheaper online. firearms or ammo and all the goodies.
as to the original posting topic, Thats good news for the firearms community.

There was one in Lewisville back in the early 2000’s. I would go by there every time I went by https://store.sportingarms.com/ to pick up something. They had a $50 coupon in the paper for their grand opening.

Cabelas used to be great when I was a kid but now it's full of mediocre at best products.

Cabelas is just like any other big retailer... they have nice stuff, they have crappy stuff, they have cheap stuff, they have expensive stuff. As a consumer, you are the one that has to pick through it and make sure something is worth your money... just like anywhere else.

One place I began to like when I lived in the Denver area was Jax. The one in Broomfield, Sheridan and 120th, was closest. It was set up like most modern sporting goods stores, but good quality goods were offered as well as firearms. Very good people behind the firearms counter and prices were not too bad.

I'm not a fan of any of those 3 but I will go to Sportsman's over the other 2. Most of my LGS are way lower in price, have better availability, and more knowledgeable staff. Every time I go into Sportsman's, 90% of customers and employees on that side are doing AR business which is fine but they could at least pretend to stock other gun styles and ammo calibers. It just feels like Dunham's or Academy, mostly designer clothes and overpriced hunting blinds.

I don't know who our folks are that feel insulted. For the record the only people I meant to insult we those gun counter morons I already mentioned.

As far as being insulted, I was speaking rhetorically, although I do have a couple good friends who actually work for the chain; as employees of a big franchise, they have pretty thick skin..

I specifically mentioned my three local stores. You made a statement, apparently based on your local store, containing an implication that the bad customer service applies across the board at all the stores and compared the chain with another notorious for inconsistent customer service.

If you don't want folks to object to or counter what you post, strive for clarity in your remarks.

Someone recently coined the term "skimpflation" to refer to this. Under-staffing, staffing with unqualified personnel, and a host of similar issues that are being seen everywhere these days. Seems especially frightening in the context of a gun counter though.

So big news today ... I spent three hours at our local Sportsman's Warehouse during a work day. Place was packed with old retired gray haired boomers like me, ran into several old friends from all over two counties and spent way too much time talking with everyone ... and the shelves were full of ammo. They even had reloading components (no primers) but I picked-up a couple of pounds of Staball 6.5 and some Hornady XTP 38 158 grains #35750 that I'l roll-up into some hot 357 mag loads for my 1894 CB LTD. The Staball I really like in my 270. No primers ... the guy laughed, said they may never see those again. Tons of brass of all kinds but pricey even in bulk. Lots of ammo, shotgun stuff, even buckshot. No Flite Control but everything else. The racks and walls and display counters were slammed full of firearms, scopes, binos, rangefinders, knives, etc.

Everyone was talking about the busted merger. Employees were happy to be getting overtime restocking shelves. Place looked really stocked and they said they still had truckloads of stuff to put out this week. Didn't realize how much all pf them hated Cabela's and Bass Pro until today ... they really let lose. Even the girls.

They had signs up everywhere about the merger ending ... I took a picture but it's on my phone and I have to figured-out how to upload it from my tablet. (Edited to see below.)

Prices are still ridiculous but at least stock/inventory might be returning, or so it would appear with a lot of the stuff.

Interested to see where that goes. Sometimes a merger is bad for a company, but often the company needs it to survive. I guess we will see if they stay in business.

Bought a Cabela's 50TH Anniversary M70 Winchester in .458 WM NIB $$1999.99 asked salesman why for that price would Cabela's use mediocre walnut for the gunstock he, with a streight face, said all the nice figured walnut was long gone, no more was available. OH my gosh, somebody totally forgot to tell RUGER it was unavailable, cuz' a year later I purchased a #1-B 22-250 stocked in walnut so beautiful it takes your breath away. At 100 yards you have to look CLOSE to see ten shots went thru the 1ST hole. Superbly accurate, gives you one hole ten shot group. Cabela's sales people are as sharp as a box full of marbles.

For all the complaints people have about Bass Pro and Cabella's my experiences with BP have always been stellar. Having had one in the neighborhood when I lived in Hollywood FL there was rarely a week went by that I wasn't in there for boat supplies, fishing gear or ammo. While I never bought a gun there I have used their range. I moved to a spot where it's an hour minimum to get to a BP and I can say with some certainty it is better to have one in the neighborhood than not.

My experiences with both were mostly limited to the post covid era, but I can't really complain about either. Both have had more ammo available and sooner than Sportsman Warehouse when I went to them. That said, having SW not be involved in the merger is not all bad if their financials are good and they are not at risk of bankruptcy, too much consolidation in the industry increases risk of the "we are not selling x" anymore variety.
