Ammo shrinkflation

While I am not crazy about all the price increases, the market is what it is. I find the shrinkage of boxes, cases, etc. to be tremendously disingenuous. I expect this nonsense at the grocery store, but making boxes of shells smaller is ridiculous. The 20 shells shotshell boxes are particularly obnoxious considering how much this screw up clays games.

I had noticed smaller packages being put on the shelves for ammo: 250 boxes of 22LR, 10 round boxes of even trap shells, etc. Saw a new example today at my local range. They had a sign next to cases of federal 20 gauge trap shells advertising $89.99 a case. I didn't need any, but it struck me as not a terrible deal in today's market. Then I looked closer and saw that Federal is now apparently shipping "case" boxes of shotshells that only have 8 boxes/200 rounds in them rather than 10 boxes/250 rounds in them.

It's happening everywhere with everything these days ... reduced portions for higher prices.

An economist also recently coined the term "skimpflation" which is supposed to be the analogous term for services. So for example you might have gotten free range time with your purchase in the past, and now you don't. Or you go to the McDonalds and the soda fountain does not work, there is no ketchup, and everything is cold.

When I was a kid, I recall a "case" being 24 of something and a "gross" was 144.
I was also reprimanded by my father when I missed a duck because: "That's a nickel every time you pull that trigger, Boy!" What's that.... a $1.25 for a 25 count box of Federal #6 shot Duck & Pheasant loads? :what:

ETC: Gross = 144 not 100

That is not right.
No. No it is not. A round of trap is 25 shells, I don't want to open 3 boxes of shells, leave 5 on the table. What an idiotic idea.

Also, when you shoot a number of rounds, somewhere between 3-6, and taking breaks in between rounds it can become a lil hazy as to just how many rounds you shot but it's easy enough to look at how many empty 25rd boxes are on the table...... 10rd boxes are bs....

Don't be overly upset about clay game .... they will simply adjust a round of clays to 80 .....but it will be the same price as the 100 was ...
Hey Jim don't give them any more ideas!! You know we all complain, but think about all the countries that won't even allow a servant to have a firearm and ammo. Thank our founding fathers, that was a smart bunch of guys.

We got those for our high school trap team last spring. Not happy. A flat with two four,-packs.

I have worked at a printing box factory for 40 yrs. We mainly print food boxes. This has been going on for at least 30 yrs. They change amounts, style, even size
To think your still getting the same thing, or hoping you won't notice. Actually COVID has been great for busines. People stay home , and buy a extra box of this or that. But ammo is rediculous, I'm glad that i reload. Be prepared!

WELL! Friend fisherman EXCUSE ME, fisherperson (so so so sowwy if I offfffended ANYone LoL:p), you need to get that sail back out, and, don't forget the solar panels for your EPA approved electrik motor :p:p

OK, I HATE seeing this showing up in my guns FOOD too. But lest we 4get; recent changes last 4-8-12 yrs; canned food went from 1lb cans to 15oz; chips went from 22oz to 16, now the average is 10-12oz, coffee by the can went down to 30 oz for the ''big'' can, AND a hooooge price increase...no cream cheese for my morning english muffins...etc...

Um, why is this magically:scrutiny: showing up in 4 year incrementso_O ?

EVERYTHING IS UP ...EXCEPT FOR WAGES:fire:.

...anyone remember the newest magic # for rifle rounds? I remember distinctly last year or so, ads for a so-called ''800 round case'' of 223...
Who do you shotgun persons think you are? Special or sumthin? hehe

Sorry. Rant-off. Thank you , I feel better suppose:).

With Tongue planted firmly i cheek: Even mil-spec ammo used to be .30 cal / 7.62mm, now its 5.56mm.

In the interest of clarity: a gross (unit of counting) is 12 dozen, that is, 144.

There's only one way to get ammo prices back to reasonable. Stop Paying Unreasonable Prices. But, That's not going to happen anytime soon.
Stupidity over Common Sense is the rule of today.

One thing I notice is suppliers are selling a lot of crap ammo, at insane-o hoarder prices. Warehouses and retailers seem to be pushing out their old, unpopular stock, first. I see a lot of lead nosed 22LR, steel cased ammo, and
Blazer brass, going for top dollar, to the people who deserve it most, those folks who won't stop buying ammo long enough to let the prices settle.

Think about how lucky we are to live in a country not run by dictators or religious fanatics with death squads, people disappearing, serious runaway inflation with worthless currency, starvation, women with no rights, etc.
(No need to comment about our current inflation or politics, it’s not the same.)

When I read about these things in the paper, I shudder and thank my lucky stars for having been born here and not in some third world hell hole.

Ug, they got me today. I’m a sucker, but at least I have another 20 rounds for elk. Last season I couldn’t find any factory elk ammunition at all. So I grabbed a box of Nosler trophy grade .308 165 accubonds for $47. I have no idea how it’ll shoot through my rifle. We’ll see.

I bought a few boxes of .308 Trophy Grade Nosler Accubonds of different weights just to see how they shot. This was six years ago or so. I learned they shoot better than a lot, certainly not worse than most. I came to the conclusion that I was the biggest variable.

At $47.00/20 that doesn't seem too out of line.

Jerked beeve’s meat is in the same boat.

The bags keep getting smaller and smaller every year. Used to be a 3 oz bag for $8. Now it’s something like just over 2 oz for sake price.

Box of cereal, used to be 16 oz, now 12 oz.
Package of bacon, used to be a pound, now 12 oz.
Ice cream, used to be a half gallon, now 1.5 Qt.
And so on.

This has been going on a long time.

Applied to Ammo, this could be something like 50 rounds to a box for pistol ammo, or a 2^x multiple of that (100 rounds, 200, 400, etc). Maybe time to write the congressmen and ask to an end to ammo shrinkflation.

Good luck. Maybe after Inauguration Day 2005.

At least they haven't been shrinking shotgun and rifle barrel lengths. :p:evil:
