Trap Shooting is still affordable

holly cow those are some spiffy looking shotguns, I would thought for 100k it would be straight out of Star Trek and will throw the clays and shoot them automaticaly with touch of a button.

I just saw a Winston Churchill shotgun online for 250k, wow

what kinda shotgun costs 100k?? just curious never heard of anything that expensive
Some Purdeys, Kreighoffs, Fabbri, Perazzi, Bertuzzi, F. Illi Piotti, Peter Hofer, and some others.
I have a guy I have shot with who has the Apollo[edited] 11 moon landing engraved on three sides of his K-80; that engraving (and the killer wood), put that gun over 100K to 110K and yes, he shoots it every weekend.

here is a Fabbri .410:

$125,000..........
Like a lot of works of art, who did the engraving can add substantially to the cost and the time to complettion. Some engraving, like this Bulino style can take over a year to complete and several thousand manhours. That engraving is done by making hundreds of thousands, even a million "dots" with the tip of the bulino tool while using a stereo microscope. Its thickness is measured in microns...........

The Apollo 13 landing?

Those look really nice, but I think I'm going to stick to my $300 shotguns for now...

I am NOT trying to sound condescending or anything, so please define what YOU mean by high$$$ guns; because for ME, moderately expensive target shotguns START about $8K and the high-end guns still in Earth's orbit go for $20-65K.................that said I have seen, handled and even shot, a few guns that go north of $100K.....................
Your moderately priced $8K would defiantly be my high-end. I can not ascertain the value of the shotguns I witnessed, but they appeared to be more than I would be willing to spend.

And that is fine. There isn't a target out there that a 870 Wingmaster can't break IF the Indian does his part.....;)
Folks, though, who like to shoot a LOT want a gun that can go hundreds of thousands of rounds, or more, with complete reliability and a minimum of downtime. They also want excellent crisp and consistent triggers, perfect balance and quality craftsmanship; all of which costs money. Guns like Perazzi can be ordered with a lot of custom features at no extra cost, like a stock made exactly to your personal specs, barrel length and weight you want, specific fixed chokes or tubes, and on and on.

Heh, when I had time to shoot a lot of trap, I mostly used the 20 gauges I hunted with and my home rolled shells. I would ship out my El cheapo baikal o/u and stand next to the guy with a 5 figure trap gun. I struggle with shotgunning because I don't really see in 3d, but I had fun and improved my skills anyway. The experienced trap shooters were usually willing to give me pointers, which helped a lot.

I have only met one person who went to Perazzi in Italy for a custom fitting. He certainly speaks highly experience. He could afford it with no sacrifices.
One can go to Cole's in Naples, FL, or a few others here to get fitted

I know a few sporting shooters who are sponsored by Kolar; one is a husband and wife team from S. GA. Custom wood to fit; and he has the skills to max out the gun's potential.......

The shotguns aren’t the big expense. Shells are what cost. Easy to spent $3k - $4k a year on “cheap” shells or reloading components. Lots of guys will go thru 15k - 25k shells a year just practicing. I know a couple of them that buy shells by the pallet. And they are very good shooters that travel around the country to shoot. And yes they shoot the nicer shotguns although not the $100k guns. Theirs are more of the $10k - $15k price range. Built like a tank. It’s their thing.

I used to joke and tell ppl that I should have taken up shooting dope instead of shooting clays. Dope is less expensive, only half as addictive and after a year of trying to get better at dope it will finally just kill you. After a year of shooting clays you are like “man if I only had a (insert $15k shotgun here) I know I could get those other two birds a round.”

EDIT: Honestly I highly recommend clay sports to anyone curious. Just be forewarned that it may cause you to feel the need to open your wallet a little wider when, not if, the bug bites. Lol

100% Spot on! I went from plinking with my hunting rifles to some clays to BOOM, clays all the time. I was hitting my local club 3 times per week and then shooting tournaments on the weekend.............

I am just now getting back into shotgunning after about a 4 year hiatus. Years ago I started shooting trap, then trap and skeet to trap, skeet and sporting to just sporting. The last few years I have had a couple of shoulder surgeries and a knee replacement. Have had my right shoulder rotator cuff repaired 3 times and my left one once. The surgeon told me if I screw my right one up again there is nothing he can do for me. :/ However I have in the last 3 or 4 months started shooting trap, skeet and 5 stand again. Arms would give out fairly quick At first but I have gotten to where I can shoot without wearing out after 2 rounds of trap. Afraid to go shoot sporting again. That really is a very addictive game. And once again it’s worth every penny you spend on it. I’ve never had a P or K gun but have always wanted a K80 sporting or par cours. I shoot my Citoris plenty good to win shoots and every time I mention getting a K80 my wife gives me ”that look.”
So I buy more shells which is almost as expensive but will help improve my shooting so much more than a new gun would.
A nicer prettier gun won’t get you any more birds but it will make the lost birds look better. Lol

I sold a few guns I didn't shoot any more to fund my Beretta DT-11 (ever so slightly used). A friend has a Perazzi MX-8 28 gauge on a 20 frame - weighs about 7.5 pounds and would be perfect for sporting targets with its tight Mod chokes; even for shooting 12 gauge events........I am SERIOUSLY tempted........

I guess once the bug bites it never lets go. Lol
Maybe it’s a vampire bite and not a bug bite.

You're telling me. I got back into Trap 3 years ago after a 35 year hiatus. (with one year of leagues 25 years ago and the odd open shoot here and there) I demonstrated for the 4-H kids, and discovered how much I missed it, and that I still shot pretty good. (22-23 from the 16 with an X-Full choke in my 870, not bad.) So I joined a team on Thursday nights, shot my 870 the first year, but was done after 4 rounds a night. Did some research over the winter and decided on a Remington 1100 Competition Synthetic, got that partway into the 2nd season (there was a delay on the stocks for them, they are made by an outside source) shot better than the first years 21 avg., Then set my sights on a getting a Ljutic Mono Gun (I had shot one when I was 16, and it was "like cheatin!") I figured 3-4 years down the road. I had an opportunity to get one this winter. The gentleman I bought it from let me shoot it while I was paying for it, and thanks to COngress and their stimulus check, I was able to pay it off in April. I had traded my 870, my hunting shotgun , for the 1100 Comp., so I had to hunt pheasant last fall/winter with an almost 10 pound trap gun that can't shoot hot pheasant loads. (I am pleased to announce Remington Nitro Clays 7 1/2's drop pheasants just fine.) Well, a guy I shoot leagues with deals in old SxS shotguns, as well as hunts with them. He occasionally shoots a practice round of Trap with them, too, but his league gun is a K80. When I mentioned I was looking for a 16 ga., maybe an Ithaca or L C Smith, he brought an Ithaca 16 for me to try. Since he sells online, that one sold before I could come up with the $$. He has another 16 waiting for me, this on is not going anywhere, and that 2nd stimulus check should be here late Sept......It's a disease I tell ya! At least I can still afford $29 new rifles!

Remington 870...I'd look for an older Wingmaster...probably closer to the $500 mark, but a better gun than current production models

One like this 1980 Wingmaster of mine ?

Shooting Clays cheap ????

A round of Trap/Skeet costs me to $10 at the club I shoot at for two rounds + ammo.
$10 for a round of Doubles Trap + ammo.
Sporting Clays is about $40 a round of 100 + ammo.

Then you have the un-cheap part.
I shoot different guns for each ...
Beretta Mark II 12g for Trap Singles
Beretta 686 Onyx Field 12g for Doubles
Beretta 686 Onyx Field 20g for Skeet
Beretta 686 Onyx Pro Sporting 12g for Sporting Clays.
Sometimes I'll shoot my Beretta A300 or Beretta 1200
Then every once in a great while I'll shoot Skeet with my Beretta 1201fp

shoot sporting clays so for registered tournaments, I spend $75/100; typically with 2 100 bird events per day. That is $150.plus a flat of shells, another $75, plus ~$50 in gas towing my rigged up golf cart 150 miles each way - at least they feed me sausage for breakfast and a decent lunch!. before I moved, I did this every weekend, PLUS weekly fun practice 2-3 times per week. That practice 5-stand was $7/25 plus my cheap $4/box reloads per round - and I would shoot 4-6 rounds each times - i.e., a LOT of shells and targets over the years........
BUT, I don't go to bars, own a boat or extra sports car, so it's my fun.
That is a lot of shooting and a good example of why one needs a “good” gun…….20000 shells a year….or more.
