I feel like the 270 win is the best deer cartridge period, change my mind.
Fantastic but the recoil, the price. What does it do inside 500 yards a 270 can't?
The Bob kinda falls apart the further you go out though. Wind can blow it inches fast and it's looses punch. I'd prefer a 2506 which I give number 2 for whitetails. Still such a great cartridge, a shame it's not more common. It’s good! Best?
Depends...
It can be over powerful in many instances.
I actually prefer the 7mm08. It’s equally powerful, but more efficient, compact,
Ditto the .257Roberts... just not quite as powerful; trajectory of a .270, but energy of a .30-30.
My vote is for the .257Roberts, though I own 2-.270’s...
Provide a much larger selection of projectile types and weights7mm.... What does it do inside 500 yards a 270 can't?
Oh how I love my 250 savage. Inside 100 it's just a death ray. But it's just no Bueno at 300 the best deer cartridge should getrdone well past woods distance.East or west of the Mississippi? The .270 a terrific medium to long range deer option. For eastern whitetails there are many outstanding alternatives. Think: .243, .30-30, .35 Remington, .444 Marlin, .257 Roberts, .250 Savage, .350 Legend, .300 Blk, .458 SC.
But which wt is better for a little Ole whitetail? Kinda hard to beat that 130 grain. Now if we arevtalking elk, yea I would agree.Provide a much larger selection of projectile types and weights
Yup its a beast but the ammo is hard to find and super pricy. I can get great 270 win at most walmarts. Less recoil as well270 win is good.
25-06 works wonders.
270 wby puts them down with prejudice
Great points. 7mm mag brass works to reload on the cheap, thoYup its a beast but the ammo is hard to find and super pricy. I can get great 270 win at most walmarts. Less recoil as well
That bobs a bad dude. Efore biden I could find 2506 on the shelf at walmart and yea the fps is minimal but the 270 is as well with a 13o grain and better SD. ID LOVE TO GET A 257 if I find a nice one I'll likely pick it up. Ruger #1 would just be perfect..25/06?
Sorry, I reload for my .257.
Uses same bullets as .25/06. Only 70-100fps difference in muzzle velocities. Not a significant difference except I use 5-7gr less powder.
I’ve shot prairie dogs at 400+yds with the Bob. Mule deer at near 400yds. Never felt handicapped on deer.
I’ve got better elk cartridges/rifles than the .270. But, question was deer!
There is no replacement for displacement! I actually prefer a 7mm to .270, and .30 to 7mm. But for elk, not deer...
Nope!.... and Nope!I feel like the 270 win is the best deer cartridge period, change my mind.
Really depends on how it's loaded, I just finished a Mauser build on a small ring 98 that's pushing 115s at 2950ish...im actually backing that load down a grain or so, which will likely end up just over 2900The Bob kinda falls apart the further you go out though. I’m not going to try. Lol. It’s a great cartridge. I also love the 25-06. I’m rebuilding a 250 savage, and currently own a 308(as in I need to pick it up tomorrow) I’ve shot deer with all of these cartridges. Mean 100 gr nosler hand load in 25-06, 130 Sierra handload in 270, 150 in 308(working on handload for that). 250 savage is being rebuilt because of the very slow twist rate that has issues stabilizing even 100 gr bullets. The 90 gr I shot out of it caused several whitetail to rest comfortably in the deep freeze before being happily digested by the family. I have a big soft spot for the 270, but it ain’t perfect. That said, across the board, no substitute for straight shooting.I feel like the 270 win is the best deer cartridge period, change my mind.
