Went to get the S&W 1911 I posted about in another thread.
Wouldn't you know it, the guy that walked in right in front of me was there for the same gun!
Now, this guy only wanted the 22 conversion kit that came with it, and the dealer was going to sell it to him.
We all got to talking, and the guy said he would bow out and let me have it.
I said, no because he got there first, and he had a Kimber pistol, and the Kimber conversion should go on a Kimber pistol.
So he bought the 22 conversion.
That left a beautiful S&W 1911 there all lonely, and looking like it needed a home.
I bought it for $150.00 less than the 2 Kimbers in the case next to it.
Upper is (was) unfired, lower was used to fire 2 mags from the conversion kit, so, I'm calling it ANIB.
I put 50 rounds through it when I got home, and am very happy with its performance. All 50 landed in a group about the size of my fist.
Here is the obligatory photo proof.
Not sure how well I like the green Hogue grips, but new ones are cheap if they don't grow on me. 20220428_213746.jpg

Nice! I actually like the grips, but I'm not going to argue with some double-diamond Walnuts. FWIW, if you wind up taking those off and don't want them anymore, PM me and I'll pay you for them. I have a stainless Kimber 5" on the way... and those might look spiffy on it... who knows?

I always liked the fit and finish of the S&W better than the Kimber, but man those grips have got to go!

Agreed... the grips have got to go. Some nice Double Diamonds or some Skip Line Checkering like Kim Ahrends use to make (I believe Herrett's Grips offer a version of them) or even some faux Ivory grips with S&W medallions on them.

Nice S&W you picked up there! A friend of my wife has one and I was very impressed with it's quality and overall fit and finish.

Mine shoots really well like yours, I never had the urge to change anything on it after all these years, because it always shot so nicely for me.

At this point I'm only going to change the grips. They aren't factory grips anyway, so no loss there. I agree though, I don't foresee needing any changes or upgrades any time soon.

I started shooting the 1911A1 series handgun 45ACP at MCRD Parris Island SC in 1964. As this is written I have several handguns in the previously mentioned caliber that I shoot to this day.

Always like a "I got a new 1911" thread. Congrats. Gotta agree with most here, the green grips don't work. I personally prefer wood, but if it's between the green or the black, go with the black. S&W has some stainless1911s with blue grips. I was surprised how much I liked that combo. Enough to put some blue on one of my Rugers.

I like the green. Everybody (including me) has black grips on stainless guns.

Nice catch. That’s a nice looking and good shooting pistol.

If I keep the black, I will need new screws. The ones I have on them now stand too proud of the grip.
I also have a set of rosewood that I bought for my stainless Taurus 1911 but the Pachmayr medallion fell out of one of them.
Maybe those screw heads are thinner.

Not feeling the green grips on a stainless gun personally, strictly “MHO” though. Black grips can be a little mundane but they look good on a stainless gun. The blue G10 grips on the Colt Competition look great. Those Pachmayr wraparound grips seem like they were made for the BHP’s, I have those on both of mine. They do look good on the 1911 though, and I’m sure they work well.
